I loved dark souls 2 scholar of the first sin and i heard from some people that the original was supposedly better, They were so so wrong

Maybe I'm a little biased since i played the remake first but this version of the game feels very weird by comparison, items are in harder spots, some of the shortcuts are removed and it just generally feels harder.
honestly, if you're planning on playing dark souls 2 for the first time please play scholar of the first sin instead!

This game is not an awful game. It's just not a good FromSoft souls game. And by not good, I mean severely below the quality bar they set with DeS, DS1 and BB (all released around the same time as this one). It suffers from poor animation quality, terrible textures, messy art direction, convoluted lore, simplistic level design, terrible hitboxes, disastrously bad game-feel, 8-directional movement, outdated interfaces, insufferable boss runs, mediocre boss quality, with too many bosses and too few good ones, etc. etc. etc...

I could easily spend hours talking about how far below its peers this game is in almost every sense. But I'd like to take a moment to also praise some of its qualities. It introduced some much needed QoL improvements over DS1 that gladly carried over to DS3. Power Stancing is a god-sent, and I'm glad Elden Ring brought it back somehow. Majula is poorly designed, but the theme music is amazing indeed. The game was definitely ambitious, but having to be built on a completely new engine ate time away from making an actual good successor to Souls. I bet Miyazaki wouldn't even have bothered making DS3 if the studio didn't ♥♥♥♥ out this one without him on the direction. Now I will always wonder what a Miyazaki directed DS2 would have looked like.

Anyways, 6/10, can be fun but is not on the level of the franchise, at all.

This is easily the worst modern Fromsoft game by a gargantuan margin.
(I finished this game despite my play hours not updating properly.)
Everything about DS2 feels second rate and rushed, from the level design, encounters, bosses, mechanics, progression and story.
It was made by the Fromsoft B-team and rushed out the door, and it shows in every single way.
I finished it because I'm a huge DS fan and just wanted to finish the series.
But if it was any other game I would have quit it because it's nothing special, and is largely frustrating to play.
There's occasional moments of brilliance but these are heavily outweighed by the amount of bad design, frustrating gameplay and clearly rushed, poorly thought out and lazy design.
For 98% of gamers I wouldn't recommend this because there's so many other better RPGs out there.
I'd only buy it if you've finished all the other Fromsoft Soulsborne games and you still want more. Then give this a shot. It's OK but falls far short of the incredibly high standard that Fromsoft is normally known for.

This is not ragebait, I am genuinely just this stupid: THIS GAME IS BETTER THAN ELDEN RING IT'S SO GOOD.
