Sadly I cant recommend this since I liked the 2018 one a lot.

There is more GoW sure but with no substance, this game isn't about Kratos. It's about every NPC around you being on a self discovery journey. you just follow along on this wholesome adventure.

It's dull. the story is only there in the background which we don't focus on. And the dialogue is so obvious that its made with an agenda. I hate to bring this up cause I wouldn't mind but in this case I can't walk around it. it ruined the experience for me.

It's toned down, more safe, characters are forced to act out of their character to have a wholesome conclusion or to have the story go in a certain way which makes you think "this makes no sense". But it has to happen cause we can't have depth in characters anymore. only good tropes for the "good character" and the bad tropes for the obvious "bad characters"

And don't get me started of the harmless and innocent tone on the whole game. and the silly stupid humour that doesnt even fit in this game.

It's a mainstream Disney/ Marvel slop kind of game.

If only it would keep up with the same standards as the first game....

it is ridiculous and stupid, especially when the first game has no requirement whatsoever.
I don't need 20 instances of PSN/PSDK bottlenecking my CPU when playing this game.

Besides this unnecessary requirement, the game runs uber smooth from my experience from what I have seen.

The game is better than god of war 2018 if you like old game new will give you more deep experience 9/10

I can't believe that I'm about to do this being I love God War and have played every single game in the series but I don't think I can recommend this game. First of all why is the golden path 30 hours!?!?!?! There is so much extra padding in here it's absurd. Who the hell cares about some family drama with Thor and his wife and kid. This game could have been so much better if it was 15 and all the extra fat got trimmed off. The biggest problem with the game is by far the writing. Within the same scene it will change from beautiful heartfelt prose to mass market Marvel cringe. After carrying Thor out of a pub (because apparently the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ god of thunder can't handle his liquor) Loki literally asks the question, "Can I get you a water?" WTF!!!!! This is the god of thunder, not your buddy who you just picked from the bar. Odin sounds like he should be working on a used car lot in south Jersey. Kratos, who is supposed to be the god killing monster, is by far the most well spoken character out of them all.. Which really is saying something. Lets not forget the useless Angrboda stuff with her Grandma or Surtur telling Loki that love is, "pretty good" or Thor saying ♥♥♥♥ more than a drunk hillbilly at a Lynyrd Skynrd show. The combat is super fun, it looks gorgeous and runs well and the story of Atreus and Kratos is actually really cool but it's completely ruined by way to long of a run time and some of the worst writing I've seen in many years.

I remember a few years ago when I played the first God of War and impressed me, said it was top 2 games on PC back then. Well, it looks like I am gonna have to put this one in front of the previous God of War since it impressed me even more. In the beginning of the game I hated it, because the combat felt much more harder, the progress didn't feel like it was there and the game just pissed me off, but that is a horrible reason to say that a game is bad, skill issue I guess since I didn't play this kind of game in a long time. However, as I progressed I started liking the game even more. Skill-issue aside, the story is actually amazing (some parts I didn't like, you'll find out on your own why, don't wanna spoil anyway) and I fell in love with many of the characters and you bond with them even more in Ragnarok then you do in the previous game. I actually got hooked so much that I wanted to complete the game a 100%. After beating the main story I went on to explore the amazing world this game has to offer and I had fun. Hard-working fun, but still a great experience. I'm guessing it's also more fun then the previous title since you don't have those annoying Valkyries to kill as side-quests, but I do plan to return to that game and try to beat them too.

While the main story is amazing I do have to sort of rant about the DLC. I honestly think the DLC is the worst DLC idea ever imagined in the gaming world. I don't know who in the hell would think that a good idea would be to make us repeat something over and over and over again (still not gonna spoil, you're gonna have to experience it for yourself). I managed to beat it as well but honestly I did not have fun. The only bright spot for me in the whole DLC is that you get to hear interesting dialogues as well as a part of history from Kratos and some other characters. Other then that, it was a bad experience for me.

Overall, despite me not liking the DLC this game is really amazing and for sure better then the previous one, but I highly recommend them both if you like great games. Amazing experience yet again.

What a game! God of War Ragnarok is the epic part two conclusion in Kratos’ Norse saga, and it delivers on every front: a superb and thrilling storyline that is expertly paced and a joy to experience; finely tuned AAA gameplay with build potential and upgrades; and a beautiful, believable, and detail-rich world that offers so much to do and places to explore. This game is simply a must-play, and despite detractors like the forced PSN requirement, I’d suggest looking past Sony’s interference and instead look at a game that Santa Monica Studios have delivered that defines the genre and sets the standard for any game like this to come. This review contains some minor spoilers.


First things first: yes, you must play God of War 2018 before you play this one. The story is a direct continuation of that game, and to understand effectively anything here it is required. This is part two of a two-part game, so skipping the first half is not just a disservice to what is also an excellent video game, but effectively ruins the story this game presents.

For Ragnarok, the story indeed lives up to the name as the game builds towards and includes the very event itself, whilst offering more than what might be expected. The story here is intricate and detailed, with several threads culminating together masterfully to offer genuine emotion behind all the scenes presented. The relationship with Kratos and Atreus is pushed and pulled yet with the context that we as a player have, it’s difficult to take a side as there is so much going on and so much at stake. There are sidequests that beat other game’s main quests, and allow even further context and world building to layer this game’s presentation into something unmatched. The story delivers here in every capacity, being wonderfully paced with lengthy sections of large developments interweaved with optional areas of exploration that provide a moment of respite and recollection on the progress that has been made.

Whilst everything is building up towards it in an unstoppable fashion, you can’t help but think the actual event of Ragnarok itself could have been better though – it feels somewhat limited in terms of scale and length, yet does provide the feeling of war whilst you are there. Additionally, the Iron Wood mission undeniably goes on for too long, but it’s hard to really complain when the section ends with such a great boss fight. Ultimately, the story on offer here is extremely high-quality and very engaging from start to finish – there is nothing to be disappointed about.


Just as expected, the actual gameplay here is flawless: combat is smooth and satisfying with audio design that matches, build crafting is present with a good variety of abilities and paths to choose, and the world offers a good mix of things to do with varied environments and challenges to further build the game towards its masterpiece status.

All weapons are a joy to use, though playing on GMGOW difficulty, I felt the abilities this time were undertuned compared to the first game. On this difficulty, combat was tough but the extra thrill from completing each encounter made it worthwhile and I have no doubts that the game is better on a higher difficulty. Companions exist here, but are limited in how helpful they can be so it's mostly a case of learning encounters and picking targets to fight. I'd also say the Berserker fights are a downgrade compared to the Valkyries of the first game, but they essentially offer the same experience. Basically everything here builds upon what was available in the first game, and it's just as engaging as you would expect from a game of this quality.


I thought I’d just mention Valhalla in its own section as I… did not love this. I had heard so much praise and positivity around it that I suppose my expectations were just higher than they should have been, as I felt that this mode – whilst undeniably good – was not as great as I thought it was hyped up to be. Overall, the mode is a solid roguelite with good meta progression, some extra story context, and more tuned gameplay, but falls short in its limited length, lack of variety, and overall small scope that I think could have been more.

For a free addition there’s no doubt that you should play it: it provides closure to Kratos for the current story arc, offers some stunning architecture from the Greek saga, and allows you to fight some new (albeit reskinned) enemies with a new Spartan ability. The fact that you are encouraged to use different weapons and abilities with every run makes it more interesting to go through as it’s RNG on what upgrades you get so you have to make do with what you have which is a nice shake-up from the main game. I think overall I did have fun playing it, but imagine it would have been better to not go immediately into it after finishing the main game. No regrets either way here – you should play it, just don’t expect something that goes so far above and beyond expectations.


Let’s cover the main thing: the PSN requirement sucks and there is no way around that. A completely offline singleplayer game should not have a mandatory online login, and it sucks even more that the game is officially unavailable in many regions around the world because of this. I still believe the game is worth experiencing even with this major red flag, but there is just no way to justify it being acceptable and if this is a deal breaker for you then that is completely reasonable.

From a game performance side, the Jetpack Interactive port (which apparently is a studio made up of just four people) is very impressive. On launch there were some minor problems, but these were quickly addressed in patches and I’d say now the game is in a very good state. It runs and scales very well across settings, and supports all the modern PC technologies you would expect like upscaling and frame generation, but annoyingly (and just like the first game) not an FOV slider – why?! On my i7-13700K and RTX 4080 PC, I played on max settings at 4K DLSS performance with frame generation enabled and was generally in the triple-digit mark for fps, with drops especially in the World Between Worlds and Vanaheim’s forests. I had exactly one crash in over 70 hours of playtime, and this came when I was fast travel spamming to check locations – so I’d consider this practically flawless.

Audio design and voice acting is excellent, music is incredible, graphically the game is a delight to behold – there is really nothing negative to say here and the game absolutely deserves that current gen classification from a technical side and translates all of that wonderfully to PC. There are also a good number of accessibility options to make the gameplay more tailored where needed, and that is appreciated when those options also offer the ability to make the game more “challenging” such as reducing dialogue from companions when you are on a puzzle. Overall, the technical side that Ragnarok offers goes above and beyond, allowing you to enjoy the game to its fullest with almost nothing to take you out of that immersion.


There is just nothing else to say really: God of War: Ragnarok truly is a masterpiece that defines and elevates its genre to a level that I don’t think can be matched until this studio releases their next game and likely does it again. Whilst you absolutely need to play GOW 2018 before you play this one, if you have, then likewise you absolutely must play this game to experience this part two conclusion that excels on every front. I fully recommend this game and believe that it is an experience that is completely unmissable and unmatched.
