Hopefully this helps someone. It looks like by default it installs to your library under a "soundscape" directory - this directly overwrites and merges with the files from "soundscape 2017" a different steam game! After I uninstalled both and installed them on separate drives the crash is solved....

Hmmm shame. I went in for Deadmau5 and there was absolutely nobody there. I was the only person. I spent 30 mins just flying around the world letting off fireworks and dancing with myself, physically searching for other humans. Sad, because it's a cool app (RIP Wave VR), but these VR dance/concert experience apps just don't seem to get enough players over successive events and this inevitably leads to their demise. Perhaps the $40 puts people off buying it?...
