Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless

Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless

How to know if you can capture? Also: ways of mass-recruiting/capturing?
I have this on the Switch and after putting it down for a little while, i'm struggling to understand something.

I'm trying to fill up squads but I really don't want to go to the recruiter to make squad fodder one-at-a-time. Last Disgaea game I had was 5 and they would just throw generics at you constantly, which I used for the Netherworld Expeditions to great effect. But this game doesn't have anything like that...

Of course, I found out the hard way that to capture via base panel, you have to have unlocked the class/rank. Makes sense...but I'm not seeing anything that indicates, in status or otherwise, whether an enemy is eligible to be captured. Am I expected to memorize all of them? (Even pokemon, for example, had a little icon on wild pokemon when you already have it in your collection...). So my questions are:

1) Is there something I'm missing on an enemy unit, that indicates to a player that they can be captured, or are at risk of auto-failing due to them not being recruitable?

2) Is there a way to get a more steady flow/income of recruitable/generic party members?

For 1 i don't believe there is any check on unit eligibility so yeah you would need to memorize what units you have unlocked.

i think disgaea is meant to be a sort of reintroduction cause for unlockable units there really isn't a whole lot compared to past games so if you are going through the story and focusing on unlocking new units you can get practically all the classes by the end of the main story and they all are not even that hard to unlock.

for 2 i would guess item world since you can find practically any unit there.

Unfortunately, from what I've seen, you simply have to memorize all of them. It's very annoying, but that's just how they decided to do things in this one. I don't like it, and I think it's a pretty big downgrade from earlier ones where you just had to have the stats to be able to capture them and at least have the unit type unlocked.

For your second question, there is some stuff that you could reasonably do to get generics. One of them is that there's netherworld sightseeing. While this isn't going to get you a TON of generics, it will get you a few (and some alternative colors for your generics that you can use). You don't have to buy them, you just have to beat them. While you can't necessarily choose what you'd be getting, it will get you generics.

The other thing that you can do is make use of your item world treks to simply capture an array of generics in there. While sometimes they might be too high in tiers, you can reasonably grab quite a few from lower / middle tier items where they are more likely to be a tier 1 or 2 generic.

I will say that the way this game works, money is a little too tight early on, and the decision to make generics be created via money instead of mana is a bit more problematic than simply using mana, as the game has you competing to make units versus being able to buy equipment for said units to survive a bit better. Personally, I think it's a good idea to unlock the cheat shop, and then lower mana by a bit and either put it in money early on or put it into EXP so people can level up enough to not need to use as much gear.
