These notes were found in a weathered journal, scribbled by a survivor who has seen too much.
Read them well — they might keep you alive.

Random Basic Bandit Camps

Wandering through the wasteland, you may stumble upon small bandit camps.
They are usually guarded by Scum, Runner, and Needle. Sometimes, a Chieftan joins them.
Crates and tents in these camps often hide valuable loot — but don’t underestimate even the weakest bandits.

Bandit Stacks

Larger bandit strongholds, built from scavenged metal and rage.
Here you’ll meet the same foes as in basic camps, but also Fixer, Peeker, and Boomy.
A direct approach is deadly. If you hear laughter behind your back — run.

Random Advanced Bandit Camps

The deeper you go into the wasteland, the nastier the camps become.
These groups are often reinforced with Fixer, Baghead, and Perimeter.
Sometimes even Boomy or Mr. Cleaner show up to make things worse.
Only go in prepared.

Bandit Stacks II.

Few dare to enter these places.
All of the bloodiest bandits gather here — and towering above them is Lord Baron, who rules with brutality.
It’s high risk, but the loot is unmatched. Enter only if you’re ready to pay the price.

Wastelander’s Handbook – Dev Tips & Tricks #1

Hey Wastelanders,
We know Plains of Pain is a complex game.
Even though we’ve built in an onboarding system with tutorial quests, some things are still easier when told straight.
That’s why we’ve gathered these developer tips & tricks to help you survive longer in the wasteland.

Follow the Tutorial Quests

If you’re new, don’t skip them. They guide you through early crafting and survival steps — the best way to start.

Choose the Right Difficulty

Tourist – Best for first-timers.
Rookie – Faster progression, still fair.
True Wastelander, Veteran, Overlord – Only for hardcore survivors who want real punishment.

Set a Safe Camp

Make a tiny camp where you operate. A Stone Stash and Mattress are a good start.
Use the mattress to set your spawn point — so death won’t send you too far away.

Salvage the Wrecks

Use a Stone Hammer on vehicle wrecks scattered across the wasteland.
They provide metal resources and, rarely, vehicle parts.

Base Building Basics

Always start with a Foundation.
Only then build platforms and walls — snapping works exclusively when a foundation is placed first.
(We know this trips up some players, so we’re planning to improve it.)

World Size Matters

S or M worlds – Faster progression, closer locations.
L to XXL worlds – Endless desolation, tougher survival. Combine with Overlord difficulty for a real nightmare.

Repair and Maintain Your Gear

Repair options (Repair Intel) appear below item description when condition drops under 50%. It shows what items to use for repairing. Use them in a same way as i.e. Whetstone (drag and drop with RMB)
High condition = maximum damage output.
- Oil or Crude Oil → repair firearms.
- Whetstone → repair melee weapons multiple times
- Makeshift Repair Kit → repair both multiple times.

Skills and Strategy

Focus your skill set on short-term goals.
You can re-roll skills a few times to change your entire build — very strategic if used wisely.

Before You Build Big

Avoid heavy base building until you craft any bigger Backpack.
It will let you gather resources much faster.

Vehicles

Build vehicles near Junkyards or Bandit Stacks — both are great spots to loot vehicle parts.

Guns from Bandits

If you want firearms fast, head for the Bandit Stacks.
Difficulty decides whether it’s a treasure hunt… or a suicide mission.

We’ll keep sharing more insider tips as Plains of Pain grows.

The Road Ahead – Plains of Pain Development Update

Greetings Wastelanders,
Plains of Pain is evolving fast. Our development is dynamic – sometimes impulsive, sometimes shaped by your feedback, but always true to our vision. That’s why we don’t want to promise exact dates.
Instead, we want to show you the directions the game is heading.

Almost Finished (currently in testing)

Ukrainian language support.
New vehicle physics – more realistic handling, bigger differences between vehicles, and most importantly, a fix for sinking-through-the-ground issues.
New 3D models for Frank and Ron (NPCs in the starting area).

Currently in Development

Completely new OGD unit models.
Completely new TOS unit models.

Big Goals Ahead

Steam community content – cards, achievements, emoticons.
Improved network code for the Building System → unlocking unlimited building potential.
The legendary city The Lost Wings City – with a brand new storyline.
Questlines for well-known NPCs: Ammo Ace Jackson, Fat Mike, Ruxxie, Fallen Frank.

Server Dev Tools (custom server moderation).

Hunting and collecting valuable artifacts.
A storyline (quests) revealing the full truth about what turned the world into a wasteland.

Major Bandit Update with New Models and Unique Voices

Major Update – Bandits Update v0.6.6

New Faces, New Voices, New Threats

This is a big one.

We’ve completely reimagined the bandit faction in Plains of Pain. After months of focused work and collaboration with voice actors, we're proud to introduce 11 brand-new bandit 3D models, each remodeled by our team in our signature visual style, and paired with their own unique voice.

They’re meaner, sharper, and fully integrated into the world visually and sonically.

You’ll hear them shout, mumble, and threaten. If you’re quiet enough, you might even notice how their voices change at night. Every bandit now feels like a distinct character. And every fight feels a little more personal.

Major Additions

11 Remodeled Bandit Characters
All bandits have been rebuilt by our team in our signature Plains of Pain style. These new models carry more attitude, visual identity, and danger than ever before.

11 Unique Bandit Voiceovers Each bandit comes with their own voice, recorded with professional voice actors. No more generic grunts. Now they taunt, growl, and react in immersive ways.
Dynamic Audio Based on Time
Bandits sound different at night if you listen from a distance. It’s subtle. It's creepy. It’s intentional.

New Features & Improvements

Reworked Bandit Loot Tables
Bandits drop better and more fitting loot. You asked, we delivered.
New Loot Container in Bandit Stacks (Lord Baron’s Box)
A special locked stash has been added to the second bandit location. Find Lord Baron, get the key, reap the rewards.

Bandits Repro Audio System (and Explosive Surprise) Some bandit lairs now have active music systems. You can shoot them down, but be careful. They're rigged to blow.

Chupacabra Audio Overhaul We’ve fully replaced its old sounds with something more natural and more unnerving.

Crafting & Repair Overhaul

New Item: Makeshift Repair Kit
Repair both melee weapons and firearms with a craftable item. Flexible and practical.

Repair Intel System When a weapon’s condition drops below 50%, the item description will now show you exactly how you can repair it. Use specific parts (like an iron pipe) to restore durability step-by-step. We’ve added more depth and flexibility to the repair system without making it a grind.

Gameplay Changes

Air-Dropped Bandit Containers Are Now Locked
You’ll need to find keys from the Bandit Chieftain and Lord Baron to unlock them.

Fixes

Meteor impact damage now works as intended.
Fixed vehicle black smoke not respecting distance fog.
Fixed incorrect inventory weight calculation when:
- Repairing a gun with oil
- Mixing liquids
- Poisoning a melee weapon
- Repairing with a Whetstone

We’re Building This Together

We’ve poured everything into this update. From completely remodeling the bandits to giving them their own personalities through voice and behavior, this is one of the biggest steps forward for Plains of Pain so far.

Patch v0.6.5.36

We’ve been working through the weekend to bring you this small patch right as the new week begins.
Big thanks to our amazing community for sticking with us and helping Plains of Pain grow with every update.

Patch Notes:

Fixed: Unable to split item stacks while the barter window is open.
Added: A TOS crew now spawns after the TOS truck is destroyed.
Fixed: Desert Yeti no longer fails to grant XP when killed.
Fixed: Desert Yeti now correctly displays its name above the health bar.
Fixed: The 3D death marker is now properly removed when reached.
Fixed: Vehicle control rebinding now works as expected.
Fixed: Inventory UI now refreshes correctly when changing unit settings.
Added: Visual sorting for inventory slots to improve clarity.

Hotfix v0.6.5.16 + New Online Command

Greetings, Wastelanders!

We’ve added a new online command to give you more control over your character slots:

/rmslot N

Where N is the online slot ID (1, 2, or 3).

You can use this command while playing online to remove one of your character slots from the remote host — perfect if you want to start fresh with a new character.

For example, to remove Online Slot 1:

Connect to the server (or remote host).
Open the in-game chat.
Type:
/rmslot 1

In the future, we plan to add a proper UI for this action. But for now — while the game is still in alpha — we wanted to make this tool available because it can be very useful.

Other Fixes:

Resolved several minor bugs.
Fixed a rare issue where Bobby Winado could be cloned at Ammo Ace Jackson’s farm.

Smuggler Bunkers, Flying Loot Drops, and the New Wasteland Map

Update v0.6.5 – New Map, Smuggler Secrets, and Bandit Bloodbaths

The wasteland just got meaner, deeper, and more rewarding. Update 0.6.5 delivers a mix of quality-of-life features, brutal new content, and a refreshed world map that calls for bold explorers to start fresh and dive back in.

World & Location Changes

New Wasteland Map (v0.6.5) The world has shifted. A new version of the Wasteland map is now available — to explore the new locations and content, you’ll need to start a fresh new world.
Official servers will stay as they are for now. We’ll first talk with our community of official server players to see whether they feel ready to move into a fresh new world with all the new content, or if they'd prefer to continue their current progress. As always, your voice will guide the decision. Smuggler Bunkers Added Secret trader bunkers used by smugglers are now scattered across the wasteland. Tracking them down might lead to rare goods and shady deals. Two New Bandit Locations (Marked as Danger)
Two brutal new bandit locations have appeared on the map, each offering a different level of chaos:

- The first location features standard bandit enemies without elite units — a deadly but manageable entry point for early-game players looking for loot and a challenge.
- The second location is a true nightmare zone, swarming with the toughest bandits in the game, including elite enemies and the fearsome Lord Baron (ex Bandit Warlord). Each bandit location is also resupplied by two flying transports that regularly drop large lootable containers in the center. These containers can be unlocked using the correct bandit keys and contain highly useful gear.
If you’re well-armed, you can even shoot down these transports mid-flight. But beware — if they crash, the elite transport crew will drop in and make sure things get... personal.
Use the buildings around the outskirts to your advantage, and advance carefully into the center of the bandit hive.
Just don’t mess up in the middle — there’s no rescue, and you won’t get your gear back unless you clear the whole place on your own.

Items & Gear

New Food Items Tuna Can, Sardine Can, EXP-099, TOS-ER, OGD C1... and one mysterious food item we won’t spoil here. Some heal, some... surprise. Vintage Rifle Update Magazine size increased. Stay in the fight longer. Baseball Bat Can Be Repaired
You can now patch it up with a Whetstone until proper repair kits are introduced. Bandit Loot Adjusted
Bandits now drop revised gear — more varied, more deadly, more wasteland-worthy.

Gameplay Improvements

Obstacle Awareness Players can no longer stand up if there’s something blocking above. Your spine thanks you. Improved Item Highlighting
Items assigned to equipment slots now stand out visually for easier inventory handling. Drop Distance on Death Reduced
Items now fall right on your position when you die — no more hunting them across the dust.

UI, Journal & Settings

Journal Now Tracks Survival Time A new “Statistics” section in the Journal lets you see how long you’ve survived. A badge of honor — or shame. New Settings Options
You can now switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit, and between metric units (Kg, L) or US units (Lb, Oz, Gal, Fl Oz, Qt).

Four New Achievements No spoilers. Just know they’re out there — and they’re watching.

What Will Come Next?

We’re already working on the next stage of chaos. Here’s what’s on the way:
New voiceovers for the entire bandit faction, bringing more personality and threat to every encounter. Completely remodeled bandits, redesigned in our signature visual style. They’re getting meaner — and better looking. More trader spots across the world, with a general reshuffle of current traders to offer more variety in bartering routes and resources. The wasteland is shifting again — and it’s going to get louder, sharper, and more dangerous.

Hotfix v0.6.4.16

Greetings, Wastelanders!
We hope you had a blast during your weekend adventures. We held off on this hotfix so we wouldn't interrupt your playtime — but now it's here!

What's fixed and improved:

Equipment Slot Fixes
We’ve resolved a critical issue that prevented certain items — especially shoulder armor and traverses — from being properly assigned to equip slots.
Custom POI in Restricted Areas
Players can now place custom Points of Interest (POIs) even inside faction-restricted zones or Safe Zones. No more limitations when marking the map!
Better Onboarding for New Players
We’ve made a few tweaks to make the early game smoother:
- A Whetstone is now included in your starting inventory — introducing the item and showing what it’s good for.
- Garlic has been added to Ron’s barter list to help with early crafting of healing items.
- A new control hint appears next to the Storage UI (e.g. when opening a Stone Stash), showing new players how to access the Craftbook directly from Storage — using both their own and stash inventory at once.
New Loot for Yesman Lowlifes
Yesman lowlifes now drop their own unique loot pool — expect more rags, metal balls, and Ballguns. A fresh way to gather essentials while roaming the wasteland!

Plains of Pain v0.6.4 – Dust Rolls In, Games Roll Out

Winds Shift, Pockets Fill, and Bobby Walks Away

The desert doesn't rest, and neither do we. This update brings a wave of useful fixes, fresh features, and subtle changes that make life in the wasteland a little more intense — and a little more survivable. From visual upgrades to smarter inventory behavior, and from new combat feedback to the temporary farewell of the Wasteland Games, patch 0.6.4 is all about refining your fight under the scorched sky.

New Features

Player Damage Numbers
You can now toggle visible damage numbers in the Settings. Turn them on to track every hit — or off to keep it clean and immersive.

Two New Hotbar Slots By default, your hotbar now includes two additional slots for faster, more flexible loadouts.

Windy Dust Effect A new random environmental effect adds dusty gusts to your travels, enriching the atmosphere.
Experimental Heat Distortion
A shimmering visual effect simulates extreme heat waves. Optional in Settings.

Bug Report Button Found directly in the main menu — letting you report bugs faster and easier.
Whetstone Merge
You can now merge multiple Whetstones into one to consolidate condition.

Fixes and Improvements

Fixed an issue where you couldn't craft using stacks larger than 255.
Death-Proof Pocket now always appears at the top of your inventory.
Fixed bugged storage containers and UI freezing in inventory.
Fixed custom crosshair colors resetting.
Fixed item transfer from storage to inventory not working properly.
Fixed overly small lootable animal corpses.
Fixed TOS units aiming too high with guns.
Fixed too-small no-build zones around underground hideouts.
Fixed quest text referencing Frank instead of Ammo Ace Jackson.
Improved item pickup priority when looting: backpack and waist bag are now used first, keeping your Death-Proof Pocket for what matters most.
Fixed LOD distances for Nopal plants.

Visual Updates

Updated 3D models for the Plastic Bottle and Old Oil Flacon.
Fat Mike now has a new model — same junkyard boss, sharper look.

Wasteland Games – A Pause, Not an End

The Wasteland Games have ended for now, but their mark remains.

Bobby Winado has left Frank and Ron’s camp. You’ll now find him at Ammo Ace Jackson’s Farm, where he’ll still accept your remaining WG Chips for trade. While the desert yeti, escaped clones, and chupacabra still roam, they no longer drop WG Chips.

The only transport still moving them is the golden truck — keep an eye on it if you're hunting down the last bits of WG loot.

The Games will return. When? No one knows. But they’re not gone forever.
