Unfortunately I can't recommend the game in its current state.

It starts off seemingly promising but you quickly understand why 15% of the players didn't even bother getting the amity crystal (the very first thing you do in the game) and only 42% made it past the small starting island. The game just has almost no content, and what it does have is quite shallow and uninteresting. Within the first couple of hours you've seen pretty much all this game has to offer.

All of the systems in this game are wonky, unengaging and sometimes pointless. Take amity for example. The game seems to revolve around this amity system, but it's so easy to both lose and obtain amity that it's completely pointless to have it at all. You lose amity when you take the life of a plant, animal or chunk of rock salt, but you can hunt all the animals to near extinction and harvest all the plants in the world with impunity as there is no real penalty for doing so (other than your weapons breaking every 3 minutes). Need to buy some stuff with amity? Just take a minute to plant a stack of your 1,000 seeds and boom, enough amity for everything. Then back to slaughtering all the fauna to try to make a pair of pants.

Exploration was the most disappointing part. The world is entirely unrewarding to explore. There's nothing fun or interesting to find, there's no risk (since there's no death penalty) but there's also no reward as everything is bland and soulless and every treasure chest you come across just has garbage in it.

Or maybe it was combat that was the most disappointing. It's clunky, lacks any sort of challenge and... That's it. There are no positives. Your weapons will break very frequently with no way to repair them. You just have to lug around spares.

The auto-swapping of tools is inane, to say the least. If you go to harvest something, your character will swap to the correct tool, but it will not swap back to what you had equipped before, like a weapon. If you're not going to swap back to my spear or bow, just get rid of this feature. If you have, for instance, two iron shovels and go to dig something up, it will swap to one of those two at random. Now you're whittling away the durability on both tools instead of depleting one first. This makes it take longer to clear that inventory slot. It works this way when manually swapping to a weapon or tool on your bar as well, it doesn't always choose the same copy.

The inventory and storage systems are poorly designed. There are items you can obtain duplicates of, but can't get rid of in any way, so they sit there wasting your space (masks). You can place a limited number of chests to store things in, but you cannot remove or upgrade these chests once you unlock larger ones. In fact, it seems like little thought went into any of the building systems at all.

Movement is fairly poor on land and 'very' poor in the water.

The dialogue is... hardly tolerable.

The bugs and crashes are expected and really not that bad.

Bad key bindings. Some things can't be rebound and there's no reason to limit key bindings in a game like this (or any other really).

Press space to climb but also to stop climbing.. This combined with climbing being glitchy in general makes for a frustrating experience.

Overall there's just not a single thing that feels engaging or worth doing.

The writing is awful, the sound quality is poor, the cut-scene quality is even worse and I know it's a fairly small dev team (something like 21 devs) but come on, they didn't even give the MC a face.

There are indie studios with 1-2 devs that go into exquisite detail and clearly show the love they had for their games. Take Kenshi and Stardew Valley for example. I'm just not feeling it here.

I'm really excited to see where this game goes. As of right now, it's pretty fun as a single-player game. Multiplayer is.....not great. There are minor bugs, to be sure (hey, it's early access), but so far I really don't see any that are game breakers. Aside from multiplayer. Here's hoping the devs get this sorted out, soon!

Got this game to play with the wife... unfortunately they took multiplayer offline until the next update. I'm not at 33 hours of just running around having a blast. This world is HUGE, with so much to do in it. I've run ahead of the story line, figuring stuff out on my own, then bouncing back to the story line an learning how I should have really done it. 68% of achievements gained, without trying, those are just entertaining to get... I'm just having a blast!

They took this game and added so many plus' from other games, and just made it really enjoyable.
