Canteen Games, the studio behind CorpoNation: The Sorting Process is co-founded and co-lead by Vicki Tingle!

We've asked some state-approved questions of Vicki, to share some insight in to the wonderful work happening at Canteen to ensure the Game Development Sector works efficiently...


"It’s a lot! If things go wrong or don’t work out how you want, there’s no one you can blame, but the opposite is also true; all of your successes are your own.
When there’s just two of you and you’re both running everything, you get a lot of creative control and freedom, which is super gratifying, but also tons of pressure."



"Still too many. You keep hoping that the sexist voices will die out, but somehow they stick around. It makes being visible as a woman in the industry a frightening thing. There are so many admirable women who take the brunt of it, but they should just be able to work on games without having to worry that someone will harass them, or review bomb things they’ve worked on, or compile silly lists with their names on. Making games with the state of the market and the industry right now is hard enough, without simply existing as a woman posing such a problem for some people."


"I think meeting people in the wild who played our game and loved it has been the most gratifying thing for me. It’s hard to measure what success looks like when you’re making something niche that you know isn’t for everyone, so every time someone tells us that they loved the game or talks about a moment that made them laugh, or a moment that felt too real, that’s when I feel most proud."


"Definitely, there’s a lot of personal experiences in there. I dropped out of university and had a lot of really rubbish jobs after that where I felt dehumanised and disconnected. It seems like a lot of companies have developed a real need to convince their employees that they’re having a great time and that working for them is great. You can be working miserable hours for miserable pay and your boss will be like, “you’re so lucky to work here!” instead of trying to make things less miserable."


"It’s been said to death but imposter syndrome is really real and you have to try very hard not to listen to it. You deserve everything you achieve and more. No one knows what they’re doing most of the time, so if you know what you’re doing even a little bit, you’re going to be okay."
