Blades of Time is, I'm surprised I'm saying that, actually a fun and action-packed game. After the first hour I was thinking about dropping it, but decided to keep going a bit more and I'm glad I did. Normal enemies at the start were rather uninteresting and required no though to kill. However the more you get into the game the more interesting enemies you will encounter. Some will require the time rewind to kill while other just need to be evaded. Due to my rather low expectations I was surprised when I realized that bosses in this game are fun. Not total pushovers, but not difficult either.

Combat while extremely simple (2 types of melee attacks, gun and 6 (but honestly 2) spells) is very flashy and satisfying. All the finisher animations and counter animations are dynamic and look amazing. The time rewind is a fun mechanic required for most bosses which pushes the game from "below average" to "above average". Finishing a boss/elite enemy with 2 clones of yourself gives a fine amount of satisfaction.

Sadly, Blades of Time is not perfect and it has a few problems which reduce the enjoyment a bit:
- During my play-through (about 7h) I had to restart the game 4 times, because Ayumi would just keep walking forward no matter which buttons I pressed.
- Game-play feels clunky at times, especially when doing aerial attacks.
- Jumping with a gun equipped will de-equip it. After playing a bunch of shooters you get used to the fact that jumping while shooting is the default strategy used to dodge incoming attacks. However using a spell while you have a gun equipped will prevent you from using that spell. Most guns also do weirdly low amount of damage. Honestly the whole gun system feels tackled on after the game was nearly finished.
- Throughout the game you keep unlocking more spells, or rather I should say different color palettes for the same 2 spells, because each spell is either "small AoE in front of you" or "big AoE around you". The only times it matters which spells you use is the final boss fight, else it doesn't really matter whether you press 1, 2 or 3.
- Cutscenes run at 30FPS, while the games runs at 120FPS which makes them look choppy in comparison.
- As for the story I can say there definitely is one. Additionally, the voice acting and lines are at times hilariously bad.

To sum up, Blades of Times is not flawless, but is an entertaining and engaging game for 2-3 evenings. Feels like a more fast paced and dumbed down version of the Tomb Raider series.
