Do the game's physics really seem that strange?
I've heard reports that this game's physics are pretty wacky. The game is definitely based on the older games' physics, more like THPS2 than THUG for instance, but I don't find it to be too different from THPS2's physics. Certainly not enough not to be enjoyable. I even recently replayed THPS2X and it felt pretty similar to me.

Were people just expecting newer games' physics? Were the game's physics improved in updates? Or am I just not noticing any strange physics?

I do know Reverts in particular seem a bit off, but that's the only oddity I've noticed. Although I've noticed Reverts work pretty consistently as long as they're well-timed.

People were expecting not to get stuck in the floor, fly into space or rag doll over nothing. That's pretty much the only flaw, aside from the balance being super loose.

Personally I think HD is more faithful than the recent 1+2, especially in the level design department. It's much cleaner, 1:1 and has the 2x details.

I like HD mostly because of its older but still fun gameplay. THPS 1 and 2 can be fun, but feel kind of old. THPS4 and newer became too forgiving and really easy to score, and even THPS1+2 only lets you choose 1 2 or 4's gameplay. THPS3 on PS1 is the closest to the sweet spot, but the newer versions of the game are also pretty cheesable. I feel like THPSHD being basically THPS2 with Reverts added makes it the perfect game, mechanic-wise, making it possible and fun to make combos while still requiring skill and not making it too easy. For a game that was only ever supposed to be $10 I don't think it's bad at all. A shame it was meant to be so cheap though, since that's probably why it has so few levels to go with it

HD is extremely cheesable, more than the rest of the games, as manuals are broken. Just do a general combo, maybe up to 40,000 base score, then lightly tap a wall while in a manual to stay in place.. then just jump, manual, jump, manual as long as you can keep your balance. Boom, 20 million and you didn't even work for it. The other tony hawk's are all skill based, my 10 million in 2X took me years to master, and getting 22 million on THPS3 PS1 even longer. HD is fun, but I definitely disagree with what you say.
