And remake sonic 06
And yes, I know PS Plus is a thing, but...
1. PS3 games are streamed from a server and cannot be downloaded, which only causes more problems than it's worth due to requiring a stable connection at all times.
2. You can't even stream games in some countries such as Australia which is where I'm from, so a good majority of people won't be able to access it even if it was available to stream.
3. Is Sonic Unleashed PS3 even on the PS Plus service? I know the 360 version is backwards compatible on the newer XBOX consoles and runs on your own hardware, but the PS3 version isn't.
Switch users would also feel left out as it was never released on a Nintendo system before (the Wii version was a completely different game much like the PS2 version was) and even if it was, the Switch isn't even compatible with GameCube, Wii or Wii U games anyway.
This is why a remaster is unfortunately essential for Unleashed in 2023, not just for PC users, but also for PlayStation and Switch users as well. The only ones that don't need it are XBOX players, which unfortunately does not make up the majority of the fanbase. I, for one, don't own an XBOX console or the 360 version of Unleashed.
Additionally, we probably aren't getting a remaster without it also coming to Xbox, which considering the recent backwards compatibility stuff in that regard doesn't seem like it's really all that likely. Just getting everyone up to more equal footing with Xbox is probably the best we can hope for, which isn't really an issue considering how well the game still holds up to begin with.
You kind of missed the point that I was trying to bring up before, that being the lack of backwards compatibility with PS3 games on the PS4/5 and even the Switch not being compatible with Wii games. While it does sound like a separate issue altogether, and for the most part it is, it does tie into the main point of why a remaster would be necessary.
Maybe we wouldn't be seeing so many remakes or remasters of our older, beloved games if these newer consoles were backwards compatible with the older games we already bought before. There's a reason why not a single PS1 classic was ever remade for the PS2 - the latter was fully compatible with the former.
I'm fine with scrapping out the unecessary long night stages and hub sections to focus on the better parts.
And more: the night stages are actually good, it is just a slower but action-packed game style, similar to E-102 Gamma in SA1 or Tails/Eggman in SA2, but actually better..
Sonic Mega Collection Plus - 20 classic games that can still be bought for dirt cheap (about a quarter of the price of Origins) and plays just like the original Mega Drive releases.
Quality over quantity is a rather weak argument in 2023, especially when there are plenty of other examples I can use against it.
