I got a high score of 70,000 and I didn't get the achievement for 8,000?

Creamy background is pain for my eyes :/

It's got this cutesy vibe, but you basically need to be thinking 3 or 4 moves ahead at all times. Am I missing something? My high score is 3920. I usually lose games early when I cannot increase my board size. Unlocking upgrades takes forever past level 6. I need to put out 1000 points to level up?...
