Careful, pressing Shift + C will take you out of the game, and there is no borderless windowed option in the settings.


I see no faults in the story. It's not overcomplicated, it has satisfactory characters, and I didn't find anyone tiring or exasperating. It's pretty enjoyable for what it is and it gets the job done.

Samuel and Emily are my favorite characters; the rest are not bad either. I'm not claiming it's revolutionary; however, it's enjoyable to watch unfold.
I liked the mini optional tutorial where you play Hide and Seek with Emily. It's always touching to spend some time and care for younger souls in video games. Even if they are only pixels, you kind of become protective of them, at least that happens to me.

Yes, it's true, we could have spent more time with every personality to understand them better and see where they're coming from, but I don't perceive it as faulty for this reason alone. It's short and sweet.



Some are better than others and reasonably interesting for what they are, but it gets tricky to say they are good because, depending on your playstyle, you might have to skip some of them intentionally. Otherwise, you risk killing a civilian, which adds chaos points and ruins a non-lethal or ghost playthrough.

This aspect could have been improved drastically, especially for those types of runs. You want to make it as rewarding as possible for players who are trying their very best not to kill or to stay moral in an immoral environment. The system is already there, but it feels more like they were experimenting with the concept rather than fully embracing it.

At times, you end up doing buggy or nonsensical actions just to finish certain side quests in the desired way, which makes it obvious the developers did not design them with that approach in mind.

It could have been much more intriguing if your actions had deeper consequences that carried forward into how those quests developed later on.



Here’s where I find flaws.
I believe the chaos system should have been a moral system, one treated much more seriously, with multiple endings and noticeable development throughout the world for every action you take. The most desirable ending could have been tied to playing in a well-planned, non-lethal way. Once again, they only toyed with the concept instead of fully owning it.

First things first, stealth is acceptable but very limited if you want to play non-lethally. It gets boring having only three main options: choking from behind, sleeping darts, and abilities. Early on, it is even worse since you do not yet have access to many abilities.

Straight-up shooting and killing everyone is far more entertaining. That is disappointing because stealth should have been designed to be equally engaging and to truly feel like the path of an assassin. They even make it harder for you to play peacefully by making sleeping darts expensive in the early stages, when they are often your only practical option. On top of that, killing dogs does not add chaos points, which shows the system was not properly thought through.

The same problem applies to side quests and main quests. They are not well-integrated with the chaos system, which makes it feel unfulfilling. I once read an argument that said:

If you abuse your power, you are no better than the tyrants you seek to overthrow. You can rationalize it, but so did the Lord Regent."

If the game truly worked that way, I would have agreed. Unfortunately, it does not. In fact, many non-lethal options are even more inhumane than simply killing your target outright. That should not happen. I should not feel disgusted while trying to do what the game presents as the “right thing.” I understand the point that the world is imperfect, but forcing you into committing vile deeds as the only alternative to killing is ridiculous. I do not agree with the idea that some targets “deserve” fates worse than death. That is lazy design.

The Lady Boyle non-lethal option is the clearest example. It reflects the idea that “non-lethal doesn’t mean merciful.” Sparing her means handing her over to a stalker who will keep her captive and abuse her forever. From a moral perspective, that is arguably far more barbaric than killing her outright. The merciful choice could actually be to end her life quickly rather than condemn her to endless suffering.

There are other strange mechanics as well. If you knock someone unconscious but do not hide the body, it counts the same as killing them. I understand that rats might kill exposed bodies and that you should be careful, but if every single body is hidden in a safe location and all of them are knocked down, they should not count as “found.” The system does not explain this properly at all in the early stages, which adds frustration. I usually enjoy when a game avoids hand-holding, but here it just causes unnecessary backtracking since you might need to replay levels to get the desired outcome.

The immersion also suffers because enemies often fail to react to obvious things. You can open a huge door in plain sight or make loud noises and guards will not care. Maybe that is more polished at the highest difficulty, but I do not think core stealth mechanics should depend on difficulty settings. They should be standard across all modes.

I do like the upgrades for weapons and abilities. However, many of them go unused because of the problems I already mentioned. Killing ends up being more fun and rewarding than sneaking, which is unfortunate. Exploring for runes and bone charms is enjoyable, although the charms themselves are not particularly impactful.



I also encountered several bugs and glitches. At one point, a cutscene froze completely and forced me to reload a save. I sometimes got stuck in terrain, although teleportation could usually fix it. Oddly enough, teleportation does not work through bars, but it does work through gaps in broken glass.

The rats could be carrying a deadly plague, but hey, we eat them for HP. Corvo’s already digging through trashcans, so I guess picky isn’t in his diet.

It's a 7 out of 10 for me. It's all right.

Dishonored is an all time classic; I regret not playing earlier. The story is great, and the art style is like an oil painting. The stealth is quite fun and for some one who has not played a stealth game before it was a nice entry point for the genre for me. The combat is great and just like the stealth with the combination of powers you will have many options for approach any given scenario.


The DLCs "kine of Dunwall" and Brigmore Witches" add to the story as you see a different perspective with some new powers there both great in their own right. However the Dunwall city trails are a absolute nightmare for achievement hunters as the achievements there as buggy brutal, and unfair i.e "by my hand alone", "daredevil", and "time management". So i highly recommend avoiding that DLC but overall the whole experience is definitely worth a buy.
