The main character uses "what the hell" like every third sentence, even tough it is set in Poland and the writer is also Polish. It really takes you out of the game, i mean it would be even bad writing if it was set in Texas.....
Pathetic, really.
Not saying they're right, but given the profession, what they deal with, and all that, the swearing didn't seem excessive at all. Course I do live in Australia where people tend to swear like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in casual conversation...
This game contains strong language, violence, blood and gore..."
so don`t be surprised when it does
Keep in mind this is from the perspective of someone that has been on the block and played many games over the years, including ones that had tons of vulgarity.
Curse words are the crutch of a writer insecure in their own abilities or what they are trying to convey to an audience.
If your curse words are being used as often as commas or periods, then you might want to go back and attempt a rewrite.
As a wise woman told me a long time ago, 'cursing is the sign of someone with a low IQ.'
I disagreed with that wise woman then, and I still curse today, under certain circumstances...as time has gone on, I think I understand what she was getting at.
Any writer should be careful to not allow cursing become TOO MUCH FILLER that distracts from what message, theme, idea or important information you are trying to convey.
Peoples time can be spent on ANYTHING, so if they are spending time on something you have provided, make it memorable...not just filler.
You can go from sounding 'edgy' to just sounding like a time waster.
TL;DR: I like this game, but agree with OPs assessment.
Go watch some 'noir' detective shows and other in the dystopian future -shows
> it makes the writing come off as very amatuer.
Agreed. I came here to say this. Seems like a 13 old boy trying to prove how mature he is.
Like first of all, it's neo-noir that's not constrained by having a teen rating. Second of all, I feel like some of y'all are way too sheltered, I swear like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and you know what - other people do as well. This felt perfectly fine, no fancy word will give the same emotional impact as a good swear.
Lmao even
