I finally got around to finishing Cook Serve Forever this weekend and I've thoroughly enjoyed myself.

I brought the game day one and have experienced the different versions of the gameplay and really enjoy the multi-tasking focused tasks that the game has settled on, though I imagine I would've enjoyed it a lot less if I didn't own a controller as in my attempts at wrapping my head around the keyboard controls were not great.
It's a very different experience from the other Cook Serve Delicious games. It feels a little slower paced, but it I enjoyed seeing a full narrative focused story in this world as I've always found the world building incredibly enjoyable. Hearing the dialogue between Nori and Brie in the various locations brought a smile to my face so many times.

There are points where I struggled, I found it difficult to find flow between certain tasks as something about trying the hold and release tasks at the same time as the spam button tasks never computed with my brain. This didn't stop me from getting any of the achievements, but it got to the point where silver was the best I could do on Blitz mode and I sincerely doubt I'll get an S rank on the Rice Pudding Cooking School without breaking my hand. But given the general message of not pursuing perfection at the cost of happiness, I think I'm okay with a couple of silvers and A ranks.

Pat Your Head and Rub Your Tummy: The Game

I really enjoyed this game. It's certainly a big departure from the mainline CSD games (and as a result ends up being a bit easier), but taking it on its own I think it's a really fun game.

When I first played it early in its early access release, to be completely honest, I was unimpressed. Unless I'm misremembering, at the time the gameplay was essentially just doing a single button sequence at a time, as fast as you can. Turning it into a game about multitasking is really what sold the gameplay for me. Now, you have to constantly be keeping track of two different sequences at once, with different consistent patterns to represent different types of actions, allowing you to get better and faster at it as the game goes on. It never got unbelievably difficult (I was able to achieve everything except all gold medals in the blitz levels without meaningfully grinding), but the margin for error scaled well enough that it never felt like a breeze to get through either.

I also want to highlight the story. From what I can remember of the previous Cook Serve games, 3 had some story, and 1 and 2 did not (it's been a while though, so I may be misremembering). This game is significantly more story driven, and while it's not breaking new ground with any of its story beats, I found it really cute and charming. The characters are all well written and acted, and the overall message is good, if predictable.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this game, just don't go into it wanting it to be a normal Cook Serve Delicious game like the numbered ones are. It's its own thing (which is why it has a different name), and I honestly really respect that.
