People who love Stardew Valley and Warrior Cats would love this game <3

Cattails is such a wonderful game and anyone who loves warrior cats, cats in general or stardew valley gameplay with animals would absolutely enjoy this game!

It's cozy, has a ton of customisation options for your cat and your colony, cute relationships to form and a decent amount of stuff to do. I've loved the socialisation and hearing what each cat has to say and checking up on everyone everyday. Starting a romance, fighting off voidling cats and catching prey for my colony. You can even bring your cats with you once you're friends! The main story is also pretty fun! It took me about 20 hours to beat the main story and 40 to complete the whole game with all achievements, I'd definitely recommend this if you liked the first cattails game, or are looking for something cozy to sink some time into!

That being said, this game is not without its flaws. Especially towards the end, the game can become a bit tedious and repetitive. The cats will eventually repeat the same lines over and over, combat can, especially in the second and third mine, be more of a drag than a fun challenge, the rewards for doing the mines are nonexistent for the most part and constantly working on your territory/friendship level can become tiring. Ng+ feels a bit pointless, even though the base idea for it is really nice, I wish there was a bit more to it.

All in all, I've loved every minute of this game, but now that I'm done I'm glad the grind at the end is over. I'm very much looking forward to what this developer has in store next for us! :)

A reluctant thumbs down for this feline Stardew Valley:

The good:
Some realistic character portraits of cute cats.
It's pretty wholesome.
It's kinda relaxing to just wander about as a cat.
Customizing your main character is fun.

The meh:
It wears its inspiration on its sleeve, but doesn't add much. If I wanted to play Stardew Valley, I'd just play it.
The hunting mechanic is really the only unique feature that I encountered in 5 hours of play, and it gets old quickly.
Decorating my lair is not fun.
Developing relationships with other cats requires a guide. Luckily there's one here on Steam, but really, if the goal is eventually breeding kittens, this is not a mechanic I need to have in any game anyway - even if it's done tastefully. ;)
The UI isn't the worst, but it isn't the best either.

The bad:
I honestly don't know what I should be doing. Early on, you get a quest from your cat goddess to go and recruit new members for your village. I wandered the wilds (and the depths) looking for cats, and sometimes encountered them fighting shadows, but there is no clear path to recruiting them. Hour 5 rolls along, and I'm still wondering what I should be doing. Crafting exists, but it's not intuitive. I guess there's going to be some farming - a staple in games like this - but there's no indication of how to farm.

The verdict: Quite a few people like this game. It's pretty clear I haven't even scratched the surface in regards to a lot of systems. I like Stardew Valley, I like crafting, I like cats. But I need a bit more guidance, or honestly I'd rather play one of the dozens of other indie Humble Bundle games crowding my Steam queue.
