I'd hold off on this one for now. I', nearing the 10 hour mark and feel like I've exhausted my interest in the game, even though I love auto battlers and the entire premise of this game. There's just not enough unlocks or enemy diversity yet to keep you interested for long. That being said, it's a great foundation for an auto-battler and I enjoy the art and theme, so this review could change with time and new content. The fact that this ISN'T in early access though leaves me nervous about that possibility, though. At the very least, wait for a good sale.

I was pleasantly surprised with this game, and I am looking forward to playing as the other characters and builds. I am satisfied as of now with the play through I completed, thanks for the great game . I give it an 8/10, loved the humor I think more funny quips would be nice between units, but nailed the atmosphere in a consice 2 1/2 hours.

I like these card battler games derived from Slay the Spire and its ilk, and this one is yet another fun entry into the genre. The game loop is that you recruit minions that fill up your board like Magic the Gathering guys, except they're all summoned at the start of the fight instead of having to lay them down one by one. Fights increase in difficulty as you progress, but you also get to recruit stronger and stronger minions. The minions are all undead, so you can reform them after each fight, so there's no reason not to sacrifice them in your endless war on the living. In addition to the minions attack/defense, there are a variety of triggered effects like shields and powers the minions have like being able to hit the back row or attack without getting attacked back. Some powers trigger at the start of the battle, and you may find the battle is essentially won or lost before anyone has moved -- say, if you build a fleet of poison mushrooms that douse the field in toxicity or have minions that die and launch magic bolts. There are also spells you can learn, and some of the spell/minion combos can be pretty broken (in a good way).

In my opinion, for a budget game there are more than enough interesting emergent combos, and you can sometimes watch battles between other necromancers and bet on who will win, with a small reward if you guess right. Those can give you a pretty good idea about new build ideas to try on your next run.

There are a bunch of other mechanics that are clever, like the "skulls" being your currency and some minions that even when stored in your bank instead of in the battle can trigger effects. You also get various buildings in your crypt lair over time that act like artifacts in Spirelike games.
