This is not new news for those who have been following since day 1. This game was announced in 2016 and was able to be wish-listed about 2022 if I recall correctly. For a bunch new to the game and wondering what the heck is going on, this is the best I've got: I understand that games take time to develop but they really should have waited to get people so hyped for this. The radio silence is in insanely poor form as well. It's tiring to hear the same repeat responses with minimal (well...zero) updates ...

This game will never be released and I think the studio is probably closed on deserted. No way they even have money left to pay free students after all this time.

They just did a little snippet about this game on the PC game show today. Totally thought this game was dead. Good to see that it's still happening.

I loved Starbound and I love their pixel art and music. This looks gorgeous and the 3/4 perspective makes it stand out from other cozy games. Have they been radio silent for so long that people are giving up on the game? :(
