Because of yet another team mismanaging their funds I have yet again spent my money on a game that I expected to be worth it. Please follow the game on Steam if you are interested, but I personally would not spend more then $10 on this at it's current state. Honestly, since future content updates are not guaranteed I would probably say hold off completely.

I loved the game, when I tried out the demo version and was excited to play it on the early access. After a couple of hours, when I got past the point I was in the demo, I started to notice more and more areas where it was lacking. But it was an early access after all, so my hopes were still high.

I then read into the discussions about the things I was missing and got more and more disappointed.

For example the romancing system. They decided during development that it would be too complex for them and they would not invest more time into it. So when you get into a romance, at a certain point your love interest will ask you to commit into the relationship and that's basically it. You'll get some dialog and scenes, but in the gameplay mechanics, there's nothing more to it. No moving in together, no marraige and especially no children.

I can understand the decision and this is not a dealbreaker, but it's still disappointing. This is a life sim after all and there a few ways this could've been done without getting too complex.

They did release patches on a regular base and actually listened to the feedback from the community, so a lot of QOL features were introduced. This is what I held them in high regards for.

And then they released it out of the early access, while the game was still nowhere close to a finished product. And this already is a major problem by itself.

Finally, they announced that they will not further develop the game and instead focus on a new one. The reason being that they do not make money because of their publisher. And they asked the community to support them on that new game on Patreon.

Their reasons do make sense. My assumption is that they made a bad deal with a publisher and that publisher forced them to release the game and keeps most of their revenue. And now they may only fix some major issues with the game to fulfill their contract and focus the rest of their time on the new game.

So for me, these are the facts:
They developed a game with money they asked of the players upfront, like every early access game. They did remove at least one rather important feature from the roadmap. And they released an unfinished game from early access. Then they abandoned the game in an unfinished state and ask for peoples money on Patreon for their new game. Basically, they're doing the same thing again, they did with this game at the start.

Now again, my opinion:
Their problems with the publisher could be true, but they could also be just a cheap excuse. If you stick to the facts, the same thing happens with other games over and over again. Early access, releasing a game way too early and then abandon it. And some disappear with the money, others have the guts to try to do it again, in an apptempt to rip off players even more. So my distrust when I see this pattern is extremely high.

Still, maybe they're being honest, they didn't correctly estimate their capabilities and made a mistake when they made a contract with a publisher.

So I'll keep an eye out for their new game and see which direction it will be going... but I will probably not buy it before the release.
