I've had at least two tribe members die from starvation while I also had 30-40 food in my stockpile. Is this a bug?

My original stone deposit ran out of stone during the flood . I had only explored and settled one outpost by then, which only had a copper source. I didn't even have enough stone to make a copper mine. So what are you supposed to do if you run out of stone? It seems like a hard block because it prevents you from settling another outpost....

What causes the Weird Gleam trait? I realized at least a dozen of my 30 villagers had it. I thought it was caused by lack of spiritual rituals, but I was doing them ever other day or so. So what causes Weird Gleam?
