What can I say? I'm a sucker for a good metroidvania game. And this one is just that. Gorgeous graphics, great gameplay, intuitive and HUGE level design......

And the music... Dear LORD, this music is just plain GORGEOUS! Music can make a good game. The composer for this NEEDS to be appreciated. Thank you for this one.

Good:
+ Beautiful characters, backgrounds, and animation
+ Sound effects are amazing and unique throughout the game. Favorites: Resting at the tree, big mushroom enemies, water rushing sound on loading screen
+ Very nice music
+ Fun, tight controls for combat and movement
+ Button combo moves (talents) are very fun and actually useful in combat
+ Two-weapon system works really well and is rare in metroidvanias
+ Lots of content (I took 49 hours to get all endings, 100% map completion, all items, etc)
+ Good variety of settings and enemies
+ Fun boss fights
+ Well balanced difficulty (Late game was too easy for me but that's my fault because I had collected absolutely everything and was over-leveled. I expect it would be very challenging with a "low percent" run)
+ Fun and reasonable platforming challenges (No Path of Pain here)
+ Very imaginative lore and world building
+ Probably a cool story but I couldn't understand it
+ Decent voice acting (I listened to Chinese with English subs)
+ Plenty of secrets to find
+ Well designed for completionists (possible but still challenging to find everything post-game, no missables, great map system)

Less good:
- Very limited fast travel made post-game cleanup painful. Did a lot of quit to main menu, then re-load save to get back to a confluence
- Riding the stingray in the ocean felt tacked-on and pointless, lower quality than the rest of the game
- Grammar errors in English subtitles (DEVS, SEND ME THE SCRIPT AND I'LL CORRECT IT FOR FREE!)
- Some enemies are drawn so intricately that I can't tell what I'm looking at, because they are too small
- Water movement is lazily implemented: It's the same double jumping mechanic with the same animation, sound effects, and speed

Overall it's one of my favorite metroidvanias. Give it a try if you liked Hollow Knight and you are prepared for a pretty long game.
