Steam Deck

Steam Deck

Mechanical Dpad for the next iteration of the steam deck
Membrane dpads are a thing of the past and disgustingly squishy, with no registration of diagonal inputs. It's time to move to the future, considering the steam deck's current dpad is abysmal.

agreed. I considered guilty gear on deck, then remembered the dpad and abandoned that idea.

Back when steam deck was launching, I remember having spare parts and ease of repair was a big deal, I know GuliKit already made Hall sensor-based stick replacements for the Deck, but I haven't found any alternative dpads.
It’s better than the Xbox controllers’ D-pad and Switch/WiiU Pro Controller D-pads, thankfully.
they're satisfying enough to use as commands/functions in a game, like going through menus or using an skill, but yea, movement with them is pretty abysmal especially in fighting games. even a hadoken is damn near impossible, you'll never do it reliably.

Think of platformer players or players of old-school RPGs before thinking about the FGC in their entirety. Surely there's a happy compromise somewhere.
sorry, i think i should clarify that i was speaking on membranes that the steam deck currently uses. i don't really have an enjoyable experience on platformers or top-down rpg's with them either. i don't have much knowledge in joystick mechanics, but i would believe you if you say a mechanical dpad would be better, because the ones we currently have are just so bad imo.
