Steam Deck
Etcher and Steam Deck
Hello everyone, I am wondering if it is possible to install Etcher onto my Steam deck so that I can create an image, to copy over to another Sd card? The reason I want to install it on the SteamDeck is because my Windows PC will not let me access the SD card.
For context, I currently have purchased 3 Steam Decks for my father and brother. I was just wondering if there is a quicker way to transfer the content instead of transferring thousands of files. I currently have EmulationStation setup on my SteamDeck and have put a lot of time into configuring games and scraping images and would like to save time.

Any help would be appreciated, thank you:engineercat::engineercat::goldenmilkminer::bcportalhi::bcportalgoo::MCCHELMET:

Just use "dd". Below an example which shows how to clone the ssd drive when doing an ssd replacement - right at the very beginning of the video. The commandline is in the video description.

If you need more instructions just use search the 'net - there are plenty of tutorials on how to use "dd".

Balena Etcher doesn't even need to be installed. It's a completely portable appimage. Download, run, enjoy.

When I download etcher, it comes as an appimage and I do not have a way to open it. I am a total noob with Linux. It tells me to choose a program.

In desktop mode, right click the appimage. Under permissions, make it executable. Then run it.

Do you by any chance know if it is 32 bit or 64 bit?

Both x64 and legacy 32 bit applications are available right there on the site to download. For any reasonably modern system, the Steam Deck included, you'll download the x64 version.
Thank you very much for the information, the app image worked and I was able to clone my sd card! Once again thanks for saving me a ton of time!:engineercat:
If I use etcher on my deck itself to clone the drive, do I still need to downlaod the recovery image?
for me only the x64 version worked.
the newest version of the x64 is a zip file. I cant figure out how to run it. when i use konsole, it works, but it reports that my brand new 2tb ssd has no room left. any suggestions?
