Still pretty early in the game (playtime has a lot of idling on second screen in it) but I'm really enjoying it so far. The overall concept and vibe is wonderful, I love being able to slot individual components and armor and stuff on my ship and seeing those same individual components get damaged and affect the ship as they get removed or destroyed. Particular placement is rather important, as I learned on one of my first attempts at customizing a ship where I had too little armor and got quickly destroyed despite tons of weapons because all my weapons were exposed and got destroyed almost instantly.

The game has some wildly varying QoL.

There are some features that are really cool like being able to wishlist items so you can easily remind yourself how many you want to get and highlighting them in shops, being able to search shops for what items they have, etc. You can buy items from other cities that you've been to and have them stored in your local warehouse there, you can send ships around to pick up those items and deliver them elsewhere for you without having to go there yourself. You can similarly control factories and the like from afar, so it takes out the old annoying having to travel around the world just to tell your workers to stop making cogs and start making sprocket or just delivering raw materials or the like. It's pretty cool.

However, there are also very clunky features that make the game feel like it is from 20 years ago. Like trying to wishlist an item that isn't already in your cargo or a shop you're looking at is really difficult (or impossible? I feel like I've done it, but have trouble finding the option again). Many towns will have multiple different shops that you have to click through multiple things to access, and they'll all have different selection and pricing, meaning sometimes if you're trying to unload cargo you have to go through a few dozen mouse clicks to find the right shop to sell it at.

Similarly many mechanics aren't really explained, and there are no hover over tooltips, something that seems like it's been a standard in games for many years at this point. Materials are used to repair components, but how quickly are they used? How much do they repair? What does a mana weapon vs a piercing weapon mean? What's dampening? Is there a way to make interceptor weapons fire automatically so I don't accidentally shoot them at ships instead of incoming missiles? Are the officer abilities able to be used in tandem or is just one at a time active? There were a ton of questions I had, and the game really doesn't have answers for you. There are steam guides that explain some of the particulars, but that's a far cry from ideal.

There are also some issues with the game unpausing itself whenever it feels like it sometimes after having conversations and the like, and the camera deciding to reposition itself or max zoom in every time you launch from a port. The button to move your camera changes in different screens, etc. These aren't huge, but it can add a bit of frustration when I have to think 'which button do I need to hit on -this- screen?' and it seems like such a basic but simple to fix thing.

Still, despite my gripes about the QoL issues, I think it's overall a wonderfully fun game with great theming, a fun enough story so far, pretty darn impressive voice acting for the main story, and an ability to play in multiple different ways and really build out your ship how you want.
