I must say I would like to give the game a mixed grade as it is not bad, but it is not good either, and it is more due to the limitations of the developer than in what is made available.

The first issue is the total lack of world building. This is an issue you can notice in other games too, where the main focus is the player mechanics, but the world is there just as way for you to pick quests. Enemies attack you but NPCs do nothing, just are there for the sake of it, and there is no real reason to wander around through different islands which is the main point of an exploration game.

What you get is a fun navigation game with combat on land, and this is good, but after few hours it show all it has to offer. As for other procedural based games, you end up either liking the game if you like the simple gameloop (go there, pick the thing, go back to complete mission) or you will skip the game as it is not your thing.

This is a shame because the game is well made, and the overall feeling of navigating is compelling; but what lacks completely is in giving you a reason to do anything. Nobody expects a 50 hours narrative to accompany the game, but if you want to make an exploration game then you have to focus on some sort of goal or objective. As you do not have the flexibility of a creative game to make your own story, and you don't have the deep simulation or survival mechanics, you end up with a product that is more like a showcase of a better game that does not exist.

Devs are updating the game which is great, but this game is fundamentally giving me the same feeling of No Man Sky: a great container with total boredom in it, where each place is offering the same experience and the world is void of any sort of interesting thing to do, beside random generated dungeons and pirate coves to loot.
If this is what you are looking for in a game, then this is competently made and the little it offers in terms of variation should entertain you.

But if you want a real exploration game with reasons to go out there that are not just another wood block painted as a NPC that gives you yet another fetch quest, then skip this game.

5 out of 10 for me; lots of potential if devs focus more on progression and story based on long term objectives.

Underrated. Sure it lacks polish, but it has a great amount of content and variety of things to do. Games should be fun. Salt is fun.

I love this game! I hope that you’ll add more character customization like more hair styles. And maybe more world customization too.
