The designers of this game have crafted their own, unique world, very much unlike our own 12th century. First of all, if they were to actually write it in the language of the time, no one would be able to understand it at all because modern english doesn't go back that far. Contractions or no. We can assume that the language people are speaking in Sir Brante is unique to its own world, with rules governed by the movement of peoples and tides of time, like all language. I, for one, think the writing in the game (that I've seen so far) is excellent.

This is such a poor opinion. This obviously isn't set in our world so there's obviously going to be different language. This is beyond pedantic

The timeline absolutely does not matter at all, because it is set on an entirely fictional world and as such the year 1100 does not map to Earth's year 1100. Even on Earth you have different dating systems in use simultaneously. The current year on the Islamic calendar is 1443 AH for example. 1443 in the West, is in the late medieval period. This game could have featured a space faring culture using the calendar year of 1100, and there would be nothing wrong with that.

Every language also has it's equivalents of 'gonna' or 'cause.' There are always regional dialects and slang and not everyone speaks or writes in a way that is considered proper for that language.

One of the words you singled out as being too modern, is also in fact not modern at all. The first attested use of 'gonna' was in 1806, according to etymology online, and since words are typically used in speech for a long time before they get recorded in print, it probably dates back to the 18th century at least. It may not be medieval, but it isn't modern, and if the game used a medieval dialect of English no one would be able to understand it.

On topic - I think Battle Brothers have done it well, they mostly have simplified US English for a medieval setting game and few anachronisms and mistakes slip in occasionally (like potatoes), but the speech is very authentic. Reminded me of ASoIaF style of common speech.

this literally cannot be anachronistic because it isn't our world. You aren't getting attacked for having a "reasonable critique", you are being given actually reasonable critiques because your opinion, which you presented as fact, is objectively and provably false.

But it is a fact.

An SUV would be anachronistic in that setting, even if the world is imaginary and "isn't our" , because guess what, it breaks the immersion and contradicts the timeline, just as modern English does.

So that's just not a really good job on a writer's part, nothing more.

You would also come off as more mature and adult if you don't use "objective" and "false" as equivalents of "me like" and "me dislike".

Have you ever watched a dubbed movie? Just think of it like that. The language isn't the same. But the translation makes it easy to read.

It was the opposite for me. The language would be considered incorrect for our "modern" standards, but I'm sure that was done on purpose. The world in the game seems like a harsh and unfair place to live, and I believe the language helps enhance those elements. It isn't an elegant place to live, so the language spoken matches the setting.

I'm reasonably convinced OP put more thought into their critique than the Devs into creating impeccable writing. The game leans heavily into Stockholm's effect to leave an impression, so it's no wonder the naysayer audience confuse a demand for better quality vs. supposedly "unique language" due to setting. You can't counter low quality with "realism" arguments either. Besides, proofreading and correcting lax grammar would cost maybe 40 bucks, it's not going to ruin them. They are lucky for not getting banned off Steam in the first place, because child abuse is expressly forbidden here.
