Disclaimer: I only played survival mode!


It's great, the fantasy, the setting, the art, the factions, the heroes, the personality of the units, the moment to moment gameplay, very intense.

If you like a challenge, this is for you.
If you're not too familiar with the RTS genre, this is very good, as in the default difficulty you can pause the game to take a moment to think and make your decisions (like queue units, give commands to your troops, etc, all of which take effect as soon as you unpause), and not have to worry about doing 300 actions in a split second, as a casual RTS player, I improved a lot because of this feature.

The sound is great, specially the voice acting.

Right now what the game really lacks is variety, which might be just be due to early access.
This is true for:

• Music: what is already there, is very good, but you will notice repetition pretty fast.
  
• The visuals of the maps: the randomly generated layout makes each map feel different in terms of strategy, like when a valuable resource is in a dangerous spot and you have to adapt to that, but the visuals are always the same, if there were like 6 or 7 possible tilesets, it would improve the game drastically.
  
• Enemies: again, the enemies that are there provide good variety in gameplay, but there could be much more, this goes hand in hand with maps, maybe the enemies could vary with the type of map.
  
• And even the gameplay options could use more variety: while each faction does feel different to play based on their strengths, the variety could be much more extreme, and more importantly, it could allow you to be more creative, each faction feels a little like a "one trick" faction.

In my opinion if they add more variety in these ways, this would be an easy 10/10.

Let me be real: I bought the game cause I read the manhwa "I became the Tyrant of the Tower Defense Game", and was looking for a game that gave me that vibe. This one was the closest I could find.
I had read reviews that called AoD "a fantasy reskin of They Are Billions", I hoped they were wrong. Well they weren't. I didn't enjoy ToB, I also ended up not enjoying this one too much either.
Like sure, I'll play it from time to time, try to see if past me had bad taste. Maybe past did have bad taste, or maybe I straight up didn't vibe with the game at all.
Vibes, they are very important, and are exactly what's needed in town-building games, a mix of struggle and snuggle. In here I felt little to no snuggle and comfiness of building your own fortress, but all the struggle of having to fight tooth and nail to make it survive until the end.
I didn't even touch the campaign cause the vibes were off and didn't like how the heroes handled in survival mode, so seeing how the campaign is very much hero-centric that put me off.
I'm not dumb and know how to play off chokepoints, future proof city layouts and such, but even with that it never felt comfy.

Nah dont...it loooks great...but that's it...it's like a very bad mash up of wacraft 3.....in alpha version

Really Good Game, Campaign is fun, Survival is Challenging.

Only Issue is sometimes bugs after updates and specifically with Saves not working.
Have to re-download and keep synching and un-synching from Steam cloud.

Its a They Are Billions clone, but without quite the polish and care that went into that game. The audio design and graphics are good tho, its quite immersive. While I would rate this lower then TAB, its still a good game and worth buying for it's price.

Pros:
1) If you're a fan of RTS games, you'll enjoy this; it scratches all the itches, resources, base building, unit management, unique heroes. Oh yeah.
2) Theme, I like the fantasy theme used here and the campaign. It's cool to see whats usually depicted in a webnovel/manhwa or maybe in an anime as an actual game.
3) Clean, it looks pretty visually polished to me. I'm no expert though, just a lazy casual.
4) Concept. This feels VERY similar to They are Billions. The difference I would say is the ability to STEAMROLL in They are Billions. I can't steamroll here. lol Skill issue? absolutely but damn it all if i don't try.

Cons:
1) Unit pathing is kinda "funny." It's there but sometimes your guys will run into a corner of your wall to "get out" even though your gate is open. Ranged units in particular like to do this in my experience.
2) Cut-scenes during the campaign. Sometimes. SOMEtimes, if you skip them, it throws the game off a bit to load YOUR side. While the enemies are fine and pushing your sh*t in. Just saying
3) Buffering. I've experienced a complete game freeze a few times during what looks like a buffering of the game. I don't know if that is 100% whats happening but that's what it seems like. Not to the point it's annoying but definitely noticeable
