My first impressions are positive. Gameplay is like a graphically enhanced Ultima Online. Combat is and build variety is more in-depth like Diablo games. Skills are gained by fighting certain enemies (you gain 'knowledge' as you continue to fight a certain type of enemy). There is a PVP and a PVE world that you can transfer between so PVP is ultimately optional in this game if you do not want to engage in it. Having the flexibility to create near endless builds with a single character, gaining new abilities over time, is quite rewarding. The game makes it easy to change out abilities and create presets for your different builds.

This game definitely encourages build-theory so if that is your thing, you may enjoy this mechanic. Your character gains essentially experience points (knowledge points) by killing enemies and doing tradeskills. Earning enough levels your character up to the next "rank", certain midgame/lategame features will require certain ranks but currently do not know of all the different things that require rank.

Fractured Online has made their game free to play and I see no p2w in the in-game store in my point of view. There are armor and horse cosmetics which are nice. For a free game you have nothing to lose, if you enjoyed games like Ultima Online, OSRS, or Legends of Aria (while it lasted), you may find that you enjoy this game. There is city pvp combat (on the pvp world) guilds, and dungeons for a variety of content to engage in.

The tutorial island is fairly well designed as are the quests on it to get you started. The mainland does not have quests as far as I know, this game is a "make your own adventure kind of game". This is not a bad thing if you know what kind of game you're getting into ahead of time. Realistic expectations are key to having a good time, and a good time you can definitely have!
