Steriods are illegal in competition.
So why is Marisa allowed to compete?

Because she doesn’t use steroids ._.

The physiques in this game are all pretty roided out. Nearly every character.

Why is Akuma allowed to compete with his negative body fat, then?

In my opinion, there are probably quite a few performance enhancers that ancient people could have used. You could eat the hormonal glands of animals for example. I did it before and it had a huge effect despite the lies online and sort of in research papers (just like the lies that say phytoestrogens have no effect). There are tons of things they could test an athlete for and surely some of them could be considered secrets for competing in ancient times.

Brother, every single character in this game is ripped to an absurd level, Akuma has the physique of Phill Heath, a prolific steroids user, bubble gut and all.

Weird how suspension of disbelief can accommodate an electric monster man, a stretchy fire breathing floating yoga advocate and people throwing fire from their bare hands, but not a woman that looks like several women I could watch on Youtube right now by looking up a strength or bodybuilding competition.

At least I wish that was the actual issue. The real issue is rather trite.

They should've called it Roid Fighter instead; seriously.

To be honest there are, indeed, some characters that shouldn't be THAT buff. Take JP, for example.

Guy doesn't even use his body to fight and the only time he (rarely) actually touches someone is when he's either kicking or choking. And bodybuilding ain't a hobby of his. It's chess.

He should've been built like Gen.

Both the male and female physiques in video games are typically extensions of each gender's perfection.

Then there is Marissa.

Marisa is not perfect, but she's close to it. I'd probably tweak some things

Marisa is a man lol.
Are we forgetting that this is a series that let characters enter with lethal weapons like knives, 3 pronged claws, literal grenades?

World Warrior Tournament qualifications are to simply "show up" and you can enter, they're not doing drug testing or weapon checks.
