Somber Echoes - Patch #4 - Early game adjustments

21 Feb

Balance changes to help ease players into the early parts of The Lower Residence, as well as removing some frustration throughout.

Added more Nyx crystals to help with health recovery in the early parts of Lower Residence.
Removed a few projectile based enemies in one of the early levels.
Moved the rest shrine in Plundered Market, to make it easier to spot.
Changed Nocturnal Pools to no longer do damage to the player. They will still move you to the previous “safe spot”.

Steam cloud save enabled - Disclaimer

11 Feb

Steam cloud save is now enabled.
Make sure you update to the latest update: 10.feb - 2025 or newer, as that added support.

A disclaimer for players using multiple computers/steam decks, etc.
To ensure you do not loose any progress, make sure you start the game on the platform you wish to keep the save from.
For extra safety, creating a local backup of the save files could be smart.

Bug fixes - Bosses and weapons

Fixed an issue with attacks lingering on Stymphalian Statue
Fixed an issue where the Arbiter weapon would in specific cases, do much more damage than intended.

Map updates(Icons/Readability)

Added icons for survivors
Updated the “quest” map icon to make it more visible
Fixed some instances of “quest” icons not being properly removed
Improved the color coding and contrast for the whole map
When a “quest” is unlocked, the map will focus on the exact location of it

Level transition stability

Fixed some edge cases where issues could arise from performing certain actions when transitioning
between levels

Preparation for cloud save

In between step to prepare the game for cloud save activation

Game save state

Rescuing survivors will now save their state immediately
Unlocking a statue memory will now save its state immediately
Fixed some secret areas not saving their state after being hidden

Misc:

Tweaks and polish applied to various cutscenes and animations
Updated icons for button press prompts in tutorials and hints
Added a tutorial for Aether Strips.

Fast Travel update:

Fast travel between Rest Shrines and C.I.R.C.E Chambers in the same district are now linked.
Added a rest shrine near The Grove Shuttle area.

Progression improvements

Fixed some map elements and breakable walls linked to secrets, to help progressing the critical path.
To ensure checkpoints are updated, we added an automatic save when walking past rest shrines.
Added an additional rest shrine in Lower Residence, to smooth out the early section.
Added map icon for Hephaestus’s Workshop.

Supernova grace period

Added a slight grace period when hitting walls. This will help entering Aether Lanterns that are very close to walls.

Some enemy hitboxes were adjusted.
Various bug fixes.

First Big Patch live now!

Update to base hover skill. Before, Hover and Hover boost had different ways of activating, but they are now unified. It now activates by holding the jump button while jumping/zapping, instead of having to release and press again (in the case of base hover).
- Also does not deactivate by doing a downwards move input.
Fixed an issue where you could get stuck inside Radiant surfaces while using supernova and lightstream.
Fixed an issue where a certain statue was not saved as found.
- If this happened to you, it should be fixed by going back to The Maiden statue to retrigger the cutscene.
Solved an issue where the map would sometimes automatically start moving when you open the map.
Improved cutscene stability.
Currently unsupported languages now default to English.
Solved an issue where the aim effect on certain abilities would increase in intensity, resulting in obstructing view.
Bug fixes on various enemies.
Improvements for SteamDeck
Tutorial Video support for SteamDeck.

New oil painted key art

We wanted something slightly different when we needed some new key art for Somber Echoes, and were excited when the artist Tuomas Gustafsson took an interest in painting it for us.

Now we are ready and excited to reveal the finished artwork.
