July 8th, marks the release of Somber Echoes on Playstation and Xbox, but also a significant milestone in our post-release efforts. We would like to seize the opportunity to thank every single one of our players for your constructive feedback and encouraging words. 

Paying close attention to your feedback, we focused our efforts on addressing the most reported concerns in the update that was released on June 27th, and the one update that we are releasing today. We are also introducing some extra content that we hope will satisfy those among you that enjoy an extra challenge.

As a reminder, the highlights of our previous patch are:

• District outlines, traveling between all rest shrines and an item locator feature to make finding your way around the Atromitos even easier.

• Improvements to lantern traversal and the Supernova ability that make exploration smoother and even more enjoyable.

With our Playstation and Xbox release, all versions of Somber Echoes are receiving the following additional content in the form of challenges:

• Speedrun modes

  • Make your way to and defeat the Phoenix boss

  • Start from scratch and get to the final boss

  • With a full loadout and every door unlocked from the start, hunt down and defeat all bosses

• Boss challenges

  • Varying difficulty boss fights with a predetermined loadouts

• Supernova puzzles

  • 7 traversal puzzles that will challenge you problem solving skills as well as your mastery of the Supernova mechanic

Each of the challenges have varying unlocking conditions that vary from reaching a specific point in the game, or defeating a certain boss, to finishing the whole game once.

Our initial intention with the presentation of the narrative in Somber Echoes was to keep it somewhat discreet and elusive, requiring players that cared for it to pay some attention to figure out what had happened. At the same time it would be out of the way for more action oriented players.

Reacting to your feedback about the story being too elusive, we are adding a brand new inventory tab called Journal. It keeps track of all important storylines and also provides context in the form of Adrestia’s insights into the evolving narrative.

Journal nodes are filled in as you progress through the game and discover narrative moments. Each node may have various story tidbits associated with it, which will be linked together, to give you the complete picture of what has happened, and what Adrestia’s reaction to the unfolding events is. The journal can be opened at any time to serve as an overview of where the story has taken you so far, or to jog your memory about a specific narrative point.
