Fun city building and ship controlling strategy game (Note: I have few hours on steam but prob around 200 hours on another platform).
Pros:
- Decent story campaign that teaches you the game mechanics
- Fun multiplayer. You can play as separate players or control one, StarCraft 2 Archon mode style
- Lots of difficulty and victory condition toggles for freeplay game. You can turn off all AI players and build cities and chill, or face off against multiple aggressive AIs with harsh conditions.
- Many interesting and unique scenarios (like the AC 4 Black Flag simulator or the no resources scenario)
- Tons of various mechanics that enrich the gameplay
- Espionage is funny
- Gorgeous music (both in occidental and oriental styles)
- Graphics that still look pretty even today
- Tons of decorations to decorate your cities
- Funny and unique NPCs
- Army mechanics are a bit strange but they make sense in that they are wired towards zone control and logistics, unlike classic RTS, where units pop out of barracks and traverse the map as you please
Cons:
- Trading is kinda only for shoving excess goods off to NPCs (or players willing to buy your stuff). Taxes is the main source of income.
- AI can be a bit annoying, if you played Civilization games, the AI does the “forward settle and get mad at the player” thing sometimes. Plus, eliminating an AI can be a bit tedious, they rebuild on the other side of their islands as your armies capture their towns.
- Ubisoft Connect might cause some issues
