DS3/4/Dualsense are directinput type, so to get those working you will need to use either big picture or an xinput wrapper like DS4Window (which tricks windows into thinking your PS controller is an Xbox).
I suggest try using DS4Window, it should resolves your issues with this game as it does have native controller support, at least for xinput.
By the way XBox controller will never be the standard (the controller most others base designs off of), only the default and most widely used. Big difference, but a CAP ON A WIBBLY STICK WILL NEVER BEAT A D-PAD, the precision is simply too lacking. XBox is only the norm on PC because of Windows, but for gaming altogether, the DualSense is the current King of Kings and follows in the footsteps of the original of this style, the incomparable SNES controller. Also, DirectInput is better than XInput, no competition.
And none of this changes the fact that most Steam games have full controller support, including Ritual of the Night, but this does not. That is the topic here. I am simply trying to gather written support for full controller support in order to demonstrate that this game deserves to have it and that people do want it. Instead of supporting the idea, you attacked me over something that was secondary to the topic at hand. How rude.
I suppose I should have just stayed quiet and let the plethora of other topics complaining about controllers not working right do all the talking. Pardon me for trying to do something that benefits the playerbase overall and trying to consolidate it all in one place, sorry for trying to suggest improvements. Good grief. I have to wonder if they even pay attention to the Steam forums anyway if this is the norm around here.
Beside that, the essence of my post is also your direct answer : Curse of the Moon 2 does have controller support. I played this game with a 8BitsDo SN30pro+ wihout the need of bigpicture or anyhing. I did offered a suggestion to get your dualsense to work with the game (DS4Windows).
The rest of your post is down to personal preferance. I too, prefer SNES/Playstation style controllers over Xbox's, but it won't change the fact that most devs natively implement Xinput type over DirectInput. Steam built-in controller settings helps and some games started to cater Dualsense but that is still relatively new.
Finally, Curse of the Moon and Ritual of the Blood were not developed by the same guys. Likely why your controller work fine in Ritual and not in Curse.
DualSense is not the only controller suffering this issue, after all, so I apologize if I didn't make it clear that this was about partial versus full controller support. I gave my specs and such so no one would tell me I might just need a better computer or a better controller or whatever since I already have a top-tier build. A look across forums, even just on Steam, demonstrates how big an issue this is for a good number of people.
That is the purpose here, so that maybe someone who is in the right position sees it and takes it up with someone who can do something about it and make an already-fantastic game freaking perfect. I honestly like Curse (both) more than Ritual, Curse and Axiom Verge are the only modern games I've cared this much about. My point got lost in my passion on the matter is all, heh. Sorry about that. I really do think that full controller support would make this a perfect game.
Wonder if there is any chance of Legend mode being added to the first game... Would love that.
So, sorry to jump in on this late, but I am currently having an extremely similar problem to OP, except I am using an Xbox controller. It used to work fine. I've played up until the second episode with this controller. But now, for seemingly no apparent reason, it doesn't work. I haven't tried going into Big Picture mode; granted I didn't have to do that before but I figure I'll try it. But yeah I'm having issues playing the game right now on an Xbox controller. I tried via bluetooth and via direct wire connection, I tried without Steam Input, tried using Steam Input with both the "Official Layout for Bloodstained 2 Gamepad" layout as well as the official one for WASD -- can't even get to the menu to select my game file. And for the record I did also try my DS5, nothing, but didn't try it in Big Picture. I've not really had to go into Big Picture for anything, just to use that controller as of right now. And yeah, both of the controllers work fine on anything else. It's super weird. It used to be a *little* finicky, but this is on another level.
Has this happened to anyone else? Any suggestions?
