No game audio?
Decided to do another playthrough of this after a couple of years, but I can't seem to get any game audio what so ever. Intro videos before the game reaches the main menu have audio like normal.

Every other game/software I use has audio like normal with no issue, including other Source Engine games. I only have a single audio device connected and enabled on my PC, I thought it might be that at first. There is nothing external or internal that I can see that would cause the game to be muted or lack any audio. Also cant get the dev console to work for some reason (it is enabled) to try and play around with commands to see if I could sort it that way.

I should've browsed the forums a little more before posting this, I found the solution. It seems to be an issue with the game running on Windows 11.

You have to unpack the game's sound files, another user made a guide that I followed to do so and it solved the problem - all credit to them.

Kind of wild that this is still not fixed. Steam should have a system for alerting users of issues like this from the storefront. More acceptable in the case of older titles, harder to ignore for games released in the last few years. How can they just leave it to have broken audio, out of the box for Windows 11 (the default version of the OS that the majority of people are using at this point)?

Use GCFScape to open file gstringv2_dir.vpk then copy the sound folder to steamapps\common\G String\gstringv2
