As for the HUD positioning, we'll look into adding it to Ultimate.
- will the Ultimate Ed be paid (DLC?) or is it just an update for the current game?
- will the saves be compatible?
- are you guys looking at upgrading the rather old and unsatisfactory HL2 gunplay?
- how much is "some more"? Not asking "deadline", but more of a rough estimate*
*as in: few weeks, 3 months, 6 months, more, etc
Ultimate Edition is an overhaul of the current game, with new weapons and improved environments. It will come as a free update to existing owners, once it's ready.
Current saves will not be compatible with Ultimate. We're also currently hosting an open beta in the Steam branches for G String, which features a patch for the current G String, addressing the most major issues that were present. It's a work in progress and we appreciate any bug reports, please just label them as OPEN BETA.
Far enough that I'm currently incapable of providing a clearer release window sadly. We're looking into our options for ramping things up, so hopefully we'll be able to shed more light on that in the coming months.
Let me know if you have any other questions!
- TOO MUCH (exactly bold and upper case) crouch walking, feels like half of the game I spend crawling through air wents, tunnels, etc.
- TOO MANY environmental hazards, could you just remove most of them and keep only some notable ones like toxic rain section and smog storm?
- TOO MUCH platforming especially where you must walk or jump over tiny ledges, planks, platforms, ect
- in TOO MANY cases unintuitive pathing like barely visible hole in a floor or wall in dark corner, need to jump on tiny pipe or run over barely visible ledge or some vent, jump through barely visible hole in glass etc. It's fine when it's some kind of secret area but NOT for main path
- lack of enemy diversity, most of them are just soldiers or sex androids
- overall repetitivness, I felt really tired because of all listed above. Could you just cut away these thing significally? More isn't always better. More unique encounters. That final section with open space combat felt really great.
- storytelling need serious improvent. I didn't understood at all what happened in the end? What are those hallucinations you get about? What are we doing and for what. What is that final trip about, are we dying or what?
I know how much time and effort was put in this work I really respect that, but it makes me sad how many flaws there.
The developer is already working on an overhaul of the entire game, at least some of your issues and complaints will probably be addressed in some way. They aren’t gonna change specific things just because one person asked them though, I imagine they’ve already received a lot of feedback since launch 4 years ago and also have their own ideas about improvements. The dev herself has stated that she wasn’t fully happy with the state it launched in and that is why there will be an ultimate edition in the first place, afaik.
Try to remember it was 90% made by a single developer over years and years of her time. And as for the story, it’s partly meant (IMO) to be vague and interpreted by each person individually. You should read the little PDF that she made which explains a lot of the characters and locations and additional lore. I imagine she would have done more if she had more people to help her and a large budget. I think it’s honestly pretty great as is, considering the circumstances of its development. It’s so rare for indie devs to make a game like this all by themselves with very little help from anyone apart from the publisher and a couple of voice actors.
Here is the guide she wrote called Beauty Secrets-

Off topic but thanks for pointing out that there was a beta, I didn’t know (there was no announcement that I saw). The beta fixes the sound not working and works pretty great on the Steam Deck (the one device I haven’t been able to enjoy G String on since I got it). No big deal to you but I wanted to say thanks.
Edit- I’m wrong, they totally did announce it, I just missed it because I’ve been gaming mostly on PS5/Switch recently.
