If you like Pokemon, do NOT play this game expecting both games to play out the same. I've seen some other reviews hating the game because certain parts of the game don't work the same way Pokemon did. That's your fault for going into the game expecting it to be a PC version of your childhood.
Just because two games are similar does not make them the same.
There are clear differences here n there between this game and games like Pokemon and Temtem, so don't expect the devs to take ONLY inspiration from those games. Let them have their own ideas.

I will say I like the art style. It's quite cute and clean for a 2D game.
You can actually select from more than two sprites as your character.
The side quests are cool.
Characters aren't bad though your cat friend doesn't stop breaking the forth wall sometimes... I feel that should be toned back a smidgen.
And from the short amount of time I've played so far, it seems like a steady game. I can see myself playing it more.

What I don't really care for is the non-existence of keybinding configuration. It says full controller support but it isn't, I tried using controller, it never worked...
On your keyboard, A = K, B = L, Y = I, X = J, LB & RB = Q & E, LT & RT = U & O and to open your Options Menu is M. It's weird...
And most, if not all, of the potential starters you can get can be easily caught from a very early point in the game. It was quite the annoyance when I picked the electric lizard and found him almost immediately when I was able to start exploring. I feel the starters should be ever so slightly farther down the line in the game to find.

I didn't know what to expect with the game, but I've wanted Pokemon style games without Gamefreak's often stale, unchanging direction with game mechanics and story for a long time. The story had a slightly different tone, a bit more realistic in my opinion, a little bit less unnecessarily kid friendly. There seemed to be less emphasis on winning the championship, but more about real dangers.

The game takes on the Pokemon formula in a few ways, with some improvements. Monster variety is great early on, you get almost all of the types and get a lot of free exploration, they didn't pad out the monster catching tutorial. A lot of stats and numbers are displayed upfront instead of hidden to "prevent" confusion. They show the monster catching rates directly for example. And there's a small typing minigame you play, it kind of adds a bit more tension to the catch.

The battle animations remind me of Gen 5 Pokemon, which to me always looked the best. I think the game looks better in battle than the chibified, evenly lighted, almost RPG maker like cartoony style it has in the overworld. The battles flow quickly, between attacks, switching Nexomons, using items. The keyboard control easily gives access to all the needed options.

I bought this for a dollar, of course it's good.
