This is a Pokemon-like that really wears its inspiration on its sleeve, and that isn't a bad thing. The graphics are simple but polished, the monster designs are very good, and the environments are great, with random encounters in visible spots. Player avatars can be swapped at any time from a variety of designs. Monster rarity is shown on screen, which is brilliant. That should be in every game. Capture rates seem a little low, but doable. Grinding goes quickly, since battles are so fast, and experience is gained rapidly. Later, you can unlock an experience share item, which makes it even easier to keep your team at a good level, which will happen naturally if you're looking for the rare encounters in every area.

The game balance is just... worse than Pokemon, though. While stamina is a great innovation, especially since it replenishes between battles, that's about the only good thing I have to say about it. Every move does so much damage that buffs and debuffs don't seem worthwhile, and status effects all have incredibly potent effects, but such low infliction rates that they'll quickly become an annoyance rather than part of your own strategy.

Altogether, though, I am enjoying the game. I like looking at it, and I like existing in this world, and the story is fine. Just... one last thing... is that the jungle area is ABSURDLY racist. It's like a 90s cartoon. What were you thinking with this?
