consensus since the Steam release?
In my research while trying to decide whether or not to buy FF6PR, I've read people complaining it's a buggy mess or it's the best version there is, and everything in between. So, what is it? Is it really buggy or not? has it been improved since launch? Not really interested in modding the game if that's what it takes to make it good. Is the PlayStation version better?

It's been improved since launch, the notable improvement being the font update, which addressed my primary issue.

The vanilla experience without mods is fine in my opinion. It's principally a narrative experience with gameplay taking a back seat.

Other than the cutscenes, the Playstation version is probably the worst version of the game. The loading times kill the experience. I would rate the PR version as the best personally (I don't attach any value to the extra content in the DS version though. Your milage may vary if you value that extra dungeon and those additional Espers).

I'm currently working on it with full arcivements and I haven't seen any bug.
There were certainly some interesting bugs in the launch version, but that was several patches ago. At this point, it's probably the least buggy version of the game.

However, with PC games there's always the caveat of 'every PC is different, and yours might be one of the few random PCs that hates this particular game for no apparent reason'.

imo modded PR is the best way to play 6.

I enjoyed the PS version. You could play it on PS2 with faster loading times.

I guess I should've been clearer, I was referring to PS5 when I had mentioned PlayStation.
