It's a really neat blend of an RTS, X-Com and perhapse commandos. Shame it's so obnoxiously hard, and almost all game mechanics are exclusively to your detriment. If something can happen in this game, it will make your situation worse. And nope - you also can't save when you want. So you'll have to replay longer segments until RNGsus is with you.

The game has some fundamental weaknesses with regards to how its mechanics and it's content don't support each other. For instance, there game will ask you to go into an area where you can't rest, can't set up effective choke points, enemies spawn in from at least 2 directions, often 3. You have to go deep into this place, win a boss fight, carry somebody out, so you lose at least one effective member of your 4 person squad who on top of everything will be slower than the others. And on top of that you can't even do it, because the game will give you the shaft. After things calm down after the boss fight, you have to re-aggro the entire area by shooting a little egg. And inviting another couple of waves of enemies coming from various directions. It's a very poorly designed climax of a mission and I'm not even sure is working as designed. It looks like it's maybe on purpose, because said egg is in a section of the boss room where you're unlikely to be 'during' the actual bossfight - so the egg won't 'aggro' on you by releasing the face hugger. But as long as that egg is there, you can't progress the story - story progression triggers are grayed out. So you'll have to trigger the egg after the boss fight. Which is balanced such that you'll barely make it out alive already...

And during all that you might very well trigger another mini-boss, depends on the status of the 'hive' that is getting worse all the time, and you can't make it better, only worse. The game likes to very much punish you for exploration that way. The more you explore the mission level, the worse the 'hive' gets, and the more difficult the rest of the mission is going to be.

The game tells you to perhaps go back, extract, rest up, and fight another day, but you'd have to decide to do that in a place that is as hard to get into as it is to get out of. No shortcuts, no mitigation. Endless enemies spawning and patrolling corridors you absolutely have to go through. And on top of everything, if you come back another day, everything is going to be even harder, because the 'global' threat level increases every day that passes.

Some more testing seems required to make the first real mission - and its conclusion - a bit less of a MFer. It feels more like darkest dungeon than like an alien game. And the fact that the boss room contains detritus that if left untriggered has you re-aggro the entire area and summon another mini-boss is just bananas. Other games have more sense than that at don't bind the 'always on' mechanics to the boss-room as well, to avoid such mishaps that make the game pretty much unwinnable, if they happem.

If the game is going to keep spawning xenos to converge on a boss room the player can't get out of because of story triggers and each wave makes the next wave worse, including spawning new bosses. Well - either the designers really want you to replay this thing until RNGsus is with you one day, or they've missed some rather basic QA...

Aside from QA, and balance - which I suppose might get better with time once you collect/develop more gadgets and power-ups for your marines:

- the marines look underwhelming
- customization is weak, you can't tell them apart on the battle-field
- there's only very few, very generic voices for them
- there's way too few lines - the game repeats the 3 lines it has all the time, it's exhausting
- the voice-acting in general is not great, it's not delivered like it's acted, it's delivered like it's ... read
- all major characters are rather unlikable with the main protagonist being particularly insufferable

Hoping for a sequel with more emphasis on believable story, deeper characters and meaningful loadout customization, perhaps tactical control of individual soldiers, so they don't neatly line up to be charged through by a xeno, and better structured content.

I feel like this game likes to railroad you into positions you won't be able to get out of too early in the game and it's not obvious that you're in an unwinnable state until perhaps 30 mins later - all due to oppressive difficulty that is fueled by RNG, and that RNG is not being tampered by reason or design ... in boss rooms, of all places.

Some will say it's a skill issue, but I'd like to call it the game having too little QA and not respecting the player's time. It enables swarm mechanics for noise in a boss room that you need half an hour to get into and clear, mkay?

I really enjoy it but I am very hesitant to recommend it. There is a ton of atmosphere, the mechanics are interesting and unique, and the story is OK. However, there is also a lot of jank here and, at this point, it is jank that is never going to be fixed.

There is big jank like levels not working properly and need to reload your save. The is medium jank where quest lines and penalties seem to just not work very well, and there a little things like your squad pathing getting confused or needing to watch the same cut scene over and over again like a punishment when you reload.

If you're looking for a unique tactics game with some fun mechanics that makes good use of the Aliens license, then I would buy it on deep sale. Just realize the you're going to be fighting more bugs than just monsters.

Grossly underrated game. A fantastic hybrid of RTS/squad/XCOM that is truly unique. Did not witness any of the bugs that early users referred to. Would highly recommend to all tactical fans out there.

After you get through the quite... tedious.. tutorial this is a very good tight game. It's sort of a love child of Aliens, Xcom and jagged alliance. Edge of your seat gameplay. Not easy , but very very nice, i'm surprised this did not gather more love. Now I must go and do one more mission, just one more, they are close, I can hear them , but so are we - our new weapons must be put to use, our supplies restocked, our objecti..... oh noo.... noooooooo. THEY ARE COMII

Story-focused and action-packed (almost) non-stop tactical shooter game.

Q: Would I recommend? A: Yes. Especially, if you like Alien(s) universe.

In some scenes FPS is abysmal. Simple RPG explosions are causing huge FPS drops.
For some reason, FPS during team assembly is the lowest, even though there is almost nothing happening on the screen...
Transition into cutscenes is abrupt, causes huge FPS drops, which ruins the experience.
2) The last chapter
Even though the scenery of the last chapter is amazing, if you look closely, textures are low-res...
As if it was done in a hurry.
3) Bugs
Some game-breaking bugs that force you to restart the whole mission: elevator does not work, buttons do not press, etc...
4) The ending
The ending is... questionable.
It feels like it was rushed or forced. Some aspects do not make any sense.

the balance between the constant onslaught that happens and the tight spaces in this game make it almost impossible to have fun. It's great to make a challenge but at least make it fun. This game started alright but as you progress in the levels it seems the devs want you to replay and replay due to never ending drones coming at you. 2 out of 10 for this trash.

As a fan of both the Aliens franchise and X-Com style or RTS games, I am loving this game! It combines RTS with suspense that will keep you on edge most of the time.
For the Aliens franchise fans, you also get a bonus of OST from Aliens (1986) movie, famous lines and also an interesting storyline.

Amazing game! Glad to be back in the Aliens universe with marines!
