Graphics and animation?
So there's very little graphics options, but the game looks like it was made 20 years ago. Is that intentional? Also the animations are very dated. Mouth doesn't move with the actual dialogue and everything movement in general just feels sluggish or off in some way. Is that normal?

Sounds like you didn't play many older JRPGs. It is normal. The game matches what the storepage and the reviews on yt show if that's any clarification.

Incorrect assumption. I've been playing JRPGs for over 30 years. But yea, just wasn't expecting this type of quality from a triple A game this new. This isn't an "older" JRPG. Anyway thanks for confirming.

Who said this was an AAA game?

You're right. Aparantly only the price is triple A. No worries, the game isn't for me. I refunded it.

I personally kinda disagree on the models, world and animation looking dated. It all looks pretty standard for the time when it came out in 2019. Right down to the way Koei handles PC ports.

Like, if you want to see dated, go look at the Arland games from the PS3 era, or even take a look at the Mysterious trilogy, the ones which came out before Ryza 1. Or even the game that came out the same year as Ryza, Lulua.

Ryza was, for this franchise, such a massive graphical and animation upgrade.

Atelier was never a AAA JRPG. it was always a niche, budget game series. The price has largely just been a byproduct of Koei Techmo's bussiness practices since buying the series. If you know the other games Koei publishes such as Dynasty Warriors.

If you want to see what an Atelier game from 20 years ago looks like, go try any of the games that came out on PS2 and then try to tell me THIS game's graphics look 'dated'.
I wish my games from 20 years ago looked like that lol

Plenty that look better. Kingdom Hearts 2 for instance. But also Final Fantays XII (18 years old). Most newer PS3 AAA titles from that time period have better graphics.
