Harden While in Air Ability
Regarding the ability you can get that makes landing after hardening do area damage, do I have to fall off something? Is there a way to jump? I haven't been able to get it to work.

You harden while falling, it's basically the plunge attack from dark souls. Although it has other uses because it allows you to negate fall damage. The most useful place to use it is the crypt because it descends.

Only place I remember using it was one of the bosses were you have to fall into the arena
