Solasta: Crown of the Magister

Games brilliant
Seriously though...Everything in this game screams that it should be vaporware but for some reason it's excellent. I feel like the developers had a genius on crew because they nailed a great game on a tight budget. Story starts out horrible but grows on you and the dialog is so terrible you just ignore it.

Feels like everything they couldn't make great, they just purposely made as terrible as possible so it was ignored or memed...I feel there was a delicate touch and an intuition involved that can't be explained....This game SHOULD be terrible, but it's not... It's actually addictive and amazing. It also holds a very good steam score and must've sold well because we are getting a Solasta 2.

If they continue this with Solasta 2 it could be a huge sleeper hit. I'm actually having more fun than Rogue Trader RN and that's saying a lot.

For me, the story, dialogue, and character models are what give Solasta a certain charm that you don't get from it's AAA kin. It's like a proof of concept for a greater ambitions that may be realized in Solasta 2.

I agree...Kinda adds to the TT D&D feel and works quite well

Yah, back in the days when you sat around a table, and the GM pulled out some gummi bears and said "OK the red ones are the kobolds with crossbows, the green ones are the goblins with glaives, and this yellow one is the shaman. Use your imagination - and if you get the killing blow, you can eat the gummi

Yeah, there is something about Solasta, that I found immensely enjoyable since the first crowdfunding demo. It reminded me a lot of playing an old game - a lot of individual elements feel rough but it is just fun to play, and makes me imagine of what could be.

I wouldn't say that the story grew on me - I can't say I was invested in any of Solasta content from the narrative perspective, but the campaigns were well paced. Just enough story interactions for the combat and exploration to not feel repetitive.

I really curious to see how the sequel will turn out, as there is clearly a lot that could be improved. I hope they build on combat and exploration that they had in S1.

It checks all the boxes of being a bad game but its a very good one...

I think it has to do with it's simplicity...CRPG'S have become bloated...There's just too much leveling, reading and broken story path choices. Just played through Rogue Trader and Solasta made me so happy that I didn't need to level up every 10 minutes. Not to mention spend 20 minutes reading though each talent and checking to see if weapons and items aligned with them. Was O.K. but was glad when it was over.

Solasta you just play. Combat is the focus...It brings back the old school addicitivness I use to have of easy playing without the pretentious convoluted lore and stat stacking. Simple like Dragon Age: Origins....

I hope they don't make the same mistake PoE 2 made and keep it simple, combat focused and cozy. Just improve the story and graphics a bit and make the main campaign a lot longer.

I mean I LOVE Pillars of Eternity1&2, currently finishing my 4th play through of Deadfire before Avowed (I forgot how good this game is) but yeah, I do hope that Solasta will more or less stick to what they did on a first one. So a combat focused tactical RPG, rather than a… well, a role-playing game. I don’t think I played an RPG where playing as party felt so natural as in Solasta.
Yes, I just got into it recently because a friend in my group was sharing screenshots and ...I cannot explain it, but something pulled me in from those screenshots! I feel like I am back in time and how imagination always played as big a part of the fun as the actual mechanics.:1heart:

Finished the game...Was VERY good....

Not sure I liked how the last area played out with no rest areas. I like the idea, but to throw it in at the end was kinda stupid as I finally got in the habit of not saving spell slots because of excessive fire pits.

Also, I went back through again saving everything...didn't know the second part was turn sensitive lol...did not need to reload a save at all....would've made it with my no spell save slot....

Otherwise a pretty damn good game. It has it's problems but I feel they nailed gameplay better than most AAA devs with only the voice acting and story really suffering.

May buy all the DLC and definitly can't wait for Solasta 2
