I think the game needs more difficulty options in general. The 4 player difficulty seems a bit over-tuned to me, especially for casual groups that don't have a ton of gene points unlocked. A ramping difficulty option would be nice. Or maybe a modifier that increases average loot value, but lowers XP gain? It'd be nice if groups that can't commit to ~3 hour runs could at least occasionally see what a fully upgraded ship can do.
Yes, we are aware that the balancing is not exactly where we would like it to be. With the feedback we've gotten from players and telemetry, this has become much more actionable for us. We are currently working on the next big update, which includes player missiles, mutators (making the game harder) and ... yes - a big balancing pass (We'll be communicating more on this soon!)
In terms of what we will balancing, what is brought up here in this thread is pretty much spot on.
The mutators will be the goto with regards to making things more difficult (read more here), but on a global level the intentions is to make the first objectives easier, and then scale the difficulty so players will be much more challenged as they progress.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and concerns, this helps us make the game better :)
Sincerely,
Daniel from Hutlihut Games
Wow... I didn't expect the dev to answer to my thought, especially critical ones.
My criticism comes from place of love, wanting to see this game be something special. If I didn't love the game, I would not have said anything and just moved on.
Thank you for your mindset, truly. I am so hyped up to see what you will do in future with such open mindset to player's critical feedbacks.
I am a huge fan now :D
