I just finished Castlevania 1 and it was horribly difficult
if i hadn't used save state, i probably wouldn't have been able to finish it for the rest of my life. even with save state, it was very difficult. especially the last and penultimate boss was very hard. but the boss variety and the room designs for the time period were quite solid. although the secondary weapons feel useless, i accept it as a good base since it's the first game. i can't wait to move on to the second game.

Good news for you.
You didn't finish the game, as you used save states.

I'm not a hardcore gamer. i prefer to play different games rather than stick with one experience with a difficulty that is unfair. i used save state and had a lot of fun :)

If it's your first time, good luck with Castlevania 2 without a guide

Secondary weapons are actually very overpowered for bosses. Especially the Holy Water that can leave them infinitely stunned if you keep throwing them. Cross is also really good.

And you should probably play the Japanese versions instead cause the US versions were made intentionally cheap in order to get people to rent the game more. The original Japanese versions are more fair since renting wasnt much of a thing there.

This especially applies to Castlevania 3, since the US unfair version has you take much more damage than what youre supposed to.

IDK why people nowadays get so defensive about cheating. If you cheated the game then you didn't really beat it.
I don't personally care that much when it comes to the way people play their games but they should at least be honest about it.

"if i hadn't used save state, i probably wouldn't have been able to finish it for the rest of my life"

if you're telling me, as you can see, i'm honest enough in my quoted sentence. i already mentioned that i wouldn't be able to finish the game if i didn't use save state. the game already gave me this option, why should i call it cheating. besides, even if it is cheating, castlevania is not a competitive game that affects someone else. whether i'm having fun or not is the whole point. I don't understand why this situation triggers people.

We're just saying facts.
I wouldn't be able to beat Dark Souls for the rest of my life either, those games are insanely unfair and brutal after all but I won't beat them with cheats and then act like I actually beat them lol.

that's the funny part, you actually didn't beat the game. You cheated.
Can you use save state in the original game and console?
mdesaleah 3 Aug, 2023 @ 6:23am
For old NES and SNES games, if they have limited lives then I do save state at the start of every level. But save stating anywhere else makes it feel like cheating so I dont. Luckily, unless its Bloodlines, you have infinite continues in the old Castlevanias.

But anyone can do what they want, there isnt a rule about using save states.

Unless you're the person above this comment, where apparently theres a rule book no one knows about lol. Sounds like one of those "get good" Dark Souls players who only sticks to the glitchy original PC port and says theres only one right way to play the games xD.
