How do I get iron ingots?

I am new to the game, but I can't seem to interact with any animals. I have tried killing them in various ways (bow and arrow, machete, axe..) and there is no reaction from the animal. They don't even attack. Fishing does not work either.. I think my character is sick of living off coconuts and bananas.. I can't seem to figure out how to plant trees and crops either.. I can plant in a pot but that's it. I tried putting the banana tree seelings out, but they just dissapear.. Anyone know why? Is it just ...

....on your newest, largest update, at least since I have been around. I know you, as the dev, cannot really ignore the bellyaching and constant crying and complaining of some of these supposed grown men on here, but I can put in my two cents worth. You thankless, worthless, b-tching ingrates in here could at least address the dev by the proper sex, rather then calling her "him, he", etc. And the guy who throws a hissy fit and completely quits the game because he doesn't get his way instantly about the mig...
