Primal Survival: Taming Guide
Taming Cheat Sheet

Taming has been reworked to allow for a more natural progression without the required grind/time sink. In summary, the main changes are:
  1. Taming effectiveness has no effect.
  2. Kibble is the only thing that can be used for taming most creatures. However, it is easier to craft. For example, you don't need a specific egg for a specific creature's preferred kibble. More on that below.
  3. Taming times and requirements have been reduced greatly (no more babysitting for hours on end).

Quick Facts
How much kibble will I need?
It depends on the creature level, though it will always range between 5-12. The paracer is the only exception to this, requiring 15-20.

How long will the tame take?
Here are some examples, which vary based on the creature level.
  • 10-15 minutes for dodos, dilos etc
  • 20-30 minutes for raptors, pteros
  • 30-45 minutes for sabers, wolves
  • 45-60 minutes for paracers

How do I craft the kibble? Which dino needs which?
It is still crafted using the cooking pot but you need to learn the engram first. Once you learned them, check out the cooking pot for the required ingredients.

Creatures That Do Not Require Kibble To Tame
These creatures can be tamed without having to use kibble. However, kibble can still be used for a much quicker tame.
  • Dodo - Prefers all types of fresh edible berries (Mejo (purple), Tinto (red), Amarr (yellow) and Azul (blue)).
  • Oviraptor - Prefers dodo and compy eggs.
  • Compy - Prefers raw prime meat or raw hearts (bigger the better).
  • Monkey - Prefers Mejo (purple) berries or Azul (blue) Berries.
  • Ape - Prefers Mejo (purple) berries.
  • Dung Beetle - Prefers poop, the bigger the better.

Kibble Types & Preferences
There are now 5 types of kibble in total... weak, common, tough, tough+ and alpha. Just like normal, they are cooked into the cooking pot. Once you learn the engram for the kibble, check the cooking pot for the ingredients required. Creatures will mostly prefer the kibble based on its class (with some exceptions).

Weak Kibble
Preferred by most weak creatures, including:
  • Parasaur
  • Phiomia
  • Dilo
  • Dimorphodon
  • Elk

Common Kibble
Preferred by most common creatures, including:
  • Raptor
  • Turtle
  • Toad
  • Ptero
  • Dolphin
  • Bat
  • Deod
  • Dimetrodon
  • Procoptodon

Tough Kibble
Preferred by some tough creatures, including:
  • Direwolf
  • Ankylo
  • Mammoth
  • Stego
  • Sarco
  • Trike
  • Boa
  • Patchy

Tough+ Kibble
Preferred by the elite tough creatures, including:
  • Paracer
  • Saber
  • Carno
  • Argentivis

Alpha Kibble
Preferred by the alpha versions of creatures, including:
  • Alpha Raptor
  • Alpha Carno

Creatures That Cannot be Tamed
Most apex creautres are too unruly to tame and insects usually have their own agenda. Creatures you cannot tame include:
  • Plesio
  • Mosasaur
  • Angler
  • Megalodon
  • Quetzal
  • T-Rex
  • Spino
  • Bronto
  • Giganotosaurus
  • Scorpion
  • Spider

Thanks Slatch, I'll check it out.

Thanks Grendarr, I'll try and have that fixed tomorrow. Common kibble should work.

I've found it better to use fists on many small dinos. Clubs might need a torpor adjustment to make them useful.

I really like the theme youve created for this mod, it fits very well together and i can tell you put a lot of time into thought, and a lot of work into the coding. I am currently building a mod for my upcoming server which very similar to what youve accomplished here. Except ive allowed gigas rexes...etc. only nerfed their stats to balance with other creatures.

What i would like to do is scale down the size of many theropods and sauropods to historically accurate sizes, aswell as increase the size of dinos like the ankylo and parasaur pachy dilophosaur titanaboa...etc. to more historically accurate sizes.

Although i do not know how to adjust the scale of dinos to where they spawn the proper size.

Do you know how to do this?
