Item Pool Rework Mod

Description
(If you have any questions about this mod, check out the QNA under the description!)

Does walking into a devil deal, only to see Multidimensional Baby and We Need to Go Deeper, give you clinical depression? Are you sick of seeing items like Duality and Mom’s Coin Purse appearing way more often than every other item? Have you ever laid your eyeholes into a Greed Mode devil deal, just to see Death’s List and Ouija Board? Do you miss Tammy’s Head?

Well, be depressed no longer! This mod fixes all of the bloated and inconsistent item pools in the game. Not only are there items that don’t belong in certain pools, but there are also a lot of items that are in way too many pools for no good reason. This mod tweaks every item pool in the game, hopefully creating runs that are more interesting and diverse. While the goal of this mod *technically* isn’t to make the game easier, removing the bloat from every item pool does make it easier. That being said, don’t expect me to have put the R-key into every item pool. Sorry, not sorry.

To be perfectly honest, I spent somewhere between 30 to 40 hours on this mod. I started weeks ago, and only just finished it today. I had to essentially learn what item pool ever item was in, writing out most items and what pools i wanted them in and what percentage they should show up at, agonizing over balance, learning how to mod, programming the mod into the game (which took like 6-8 hours by itself), constantly playing the game to test the balance (which I didn’t even include in the final time count), creating a thumbnail (which took way too long), and writing this giant ass description. My point is that these changes haven’t been made at random, I have made sure to keep the game as balanced as possible.

If you enjoy this mod, please rate it and comment below with your feedback. As I said, I spent a lot of time on it, so I hope my work was worth it. A huge thank you to Android and Tarluk on discord, who helped me learn how to mod and balance the mod. Thanks to Collin Emory Smith at cormacillustrated.com, who drew the amazing Vectorized items in the thumbnail. Finally, thanks to Kilburn and Edmund for creating such an amazing DLC, we wouldn’t be here without you!

QNA:
Q: Why does it say 2.0 now? What changed?
A: So, after making the first edition of this mod, people justifiably had quite a few critiques. However, because I was both burnt out and too much of a hardass, I kept the controversial changes in. This time, however, I’ve taken a lot of criticism, and hopefully have created a much more balanced and fun mod as a result.

Q: But Duality is really good! Why does your thumbnail have it crossed out? Does that mean you removed it?
A: The point I’m making is that 99% of the changes in this mod are NOT just for removing bad items and adding better ones. The point is to rework items so that you can get the most varied, fun runs possible.
Therefore, it doesn’t matter if Duality is good or bad. Duality has a weight of 1.0 in both the devil and angel pools, meaning you see it twice as often as other items (given that you use devil and angel deals.) This mod lowers its weight to 0.5 in both, meaning it shows up roughly as often as other items. That is why it’s on the thumbnail, not just because it’s a bad item.

Q: Does this Mod work with other, similar mods?
A: NO, this mod does not work with any other mods that change item pools! It does work with mods that simply add items, however.

Q: Is this mod still updated?
A: Yup! Even 2 years after repentence released, I'm still tweaking it. That said, I don't think it's ever going to change that much again, just small changes.

Does this mod fix the keepers item pool?

Oh and the rate at which red key rooms create special rooms, I think it was 1/3 in OG Anti

@rumormonger Actually, making that change would be super difficult xD

The things that are easy to change is:
1. What items are in what item pools
2. Item spawn rates in those pools
3. Active item charge rate
4. Devil deal prices

@medic BF thanks! those are simple to do at least, but does anyone remember how often Sack Head sacks gave us tarot cards pre-nerf? It felt like 50% or so.

@Rumormonger those two in specific were changed for pretty good reasons in my opinion, lol. But hey, if you want it changed, go into the files and change them yourself! It's actually not that difficult.

Any chance you could bring back some of the item pool removals and some Antibirth balance changes? I remember Red Key having 3 charges and Cricket's Head being in gold chests.

that's alright, deleting the items.xml file works fine for me for the time being
