My name is Thomas, soon 20 years old, and I live in France. I'm currently studying for a master in THEORETICAL Computer Science (the "theoretical" means that most of the lectures don't even need computers at all. For example defining a logic where the excluded middle principle doesn't hold (this principle is the one thanks to which one can say that something is either right or wrong :) ))
I bought TI3 while I was in high school, but never really found friends willing to spend 8 hours on a single game until last year. However, the game was so awesome I played it alone during that time. Yes, it seems difficult, but it is actually possible. You just have to split your brain in as many parts as they are players, then only 1 part is fully active at any time: the player who is taking his turn. The other parts are just ready to triggers ACs. Things get more complicated with diplomatic and politic stuff, but you get the idea.
I was happily playing the vanilla game for all this time, until I finally discovered SA. This discovery really pulled a trigger in my brain: "So you can modify the rules of your games?! Whoa!!".
After this moment, I started to heavily mod my game. At the beginning just to implement SA, then modifying it even more to get rid of some brain-traps and rough things and finally redoing the tech tree.
Even now, finding players and planning physical games is really exhaustive. But with TTS... The sky is the limit! (actually, the limit would more likely be the border of the universe (assuming it exists). And if it doesn't exist, then no limits at all :)).
This mod is awesome.
Then there was a big lull as my daughter was demanding more and more time. Then my wife made the big mistake of buying me the base game and SE for Xmas 2015. I started my first online game at the pbf forums in Jan2016. I hosted my first SA F2F game a few weeks later (we ran out of time again). Noticing an open evening in my weekly schedule, I proposed a fixed evening to play every week. After a somewhat rough start we finally managed to complete a game (the 4P game where I was Creuss was actually my first completed game - thus I kind of botched the bubble victory) and have several on the way now. What can I say - Join the Tuesday Night Matches!
Unitl then I enjoy TI3:SA as a nice sink for extra brain activity until I have determined, that Jol-Nar is weak and can be overrun - Sorry Gzar! My SO made me do it!
So... there you have it. I'm the noob of the group. Have mercy with me ;)
Anyway, thanks for reading, and thanks to those of you who made and update the excellent Shattered Ascension mod.
I've chatted with most of you over Steam, but as you may know, Steam chat does not save the history, and I tend to mix ya'll up.
Looking forward to great games across the Atlantic :)
I don't even know if I got time to play here but well, I would love to play TI somehow and since we were not able to start and finish the board game maybe I will try it out here. I was part of the game Thrombozyt described, just had a much worse start and fucked up so I was watching doom coming up over the destroyed fleet. Well, I am probably the new noob to this group and maybe I will try out to watch him play before I start joining here, unless I can find some time for it.
I am not new to epic games since I am part of the NQ Civilization Group on Steam. My longest game has only been like 5-6 hours though. Well, I don't have the time atm and don't know what else to say, I hope I'll see you when I know how this works out.
Cheers
Christian
My name's Randy. I'm from the US and I've been playing TI3 since I discovered it in an odd boutique shop back in 2006. My friends and I love this game dearly and have played it many times over that last ten years. I came across Shattered Ascension a few years ago but was worried my group wouldn't be interested in relearning the game since our time for boards games was diminishing due to life and people moving away. But thanks TTS our old group is back together again! Just yesterday I rediscovered SA and am really hungry to jump in. The reprints of cards, tiles, and race sheets are beautiful and I can't wait to try out the variants and fixes the community has come up with. Hat's off to everyone who contributed!
Randy
70 members, now. But I don't know half of you. More should say "hi" right here.
It's a shame that I only now introduce my self, but whatever, better late than never ;)
I'm Francesco ( Cesco) i'm 27, I live in Venice (Italy), i'm a physicst, still studying (sigh) for a master degree in theoretical physics.
I started playing Ti3 about 10 years ago (or more?) but i had a lot of difficult to actually organize games due to the long time of the set-up and playtime. me and my group used to play ti3 SA about 3-4 time per year, after exams or during holidays. unfortunately we are playing less and less :(
hum... i don't know what else to say....
I dont have too much time to play ti3 theese days but i usually can play 1 night (20:10-24:00 CEST) per week i guess, especially after September-December
I love boardgame and game theory ^^'.
My name is Chris Lamkin, 32, I am a Chef from the US with a passion for food and games. I have never played TI3 simply because as much as my friends and I wanted to play, the time to play seemed pretty over the top. Add most of our group moving away and having less time for games, finding this group on TTS was just what I am looking for! I've been reading the rules for a few days now and I am a quick study, so I hope that I will be able to join in on some fun.
There's of course the small obstacle with the Atlantic time difference. We have a Euro-crew that plays regularly, but there's also a US crew brewing. Contact happygrue. He's awesome at making stuff happen.
I'm Hendrik from Germany. I'm 33 years old, work as an editor and have always been very interested in complex strategy games and sci-fi scenarios. Given that, it's a bit surprising that I have not come across with TI before. A colleague recommend it to me some weeks ago. I was very curious from the very first moment I discovered this awesome game by watching videos on YT or reading community entries. I gathered five good friends around me, "infected" them with the TI virus and eventually we bought the game together. After having played two matches (which took us two complete but great weekends) we straightaway decided to buy the expansion "Shattered Empire" as well. We haven't played it yet because it's very hard to find a date which fits for all - but I guess you know the problem very well;)
The point is that I'm so excited about ths fantastic epic board game that I can't wait to play the next TI match. Yesterday evening, I just wanted to know from Google, if there was a PC version of TI - and that's the story how I found this Steam mod and your community.
Although I don't know anyone of you, I'm glad that I've made my way here and I say hello to all of you who share the passion for TI. Though I'm sure they have heard this many times now, I would like to thank the members of this community, who put a lot of work, time and brain into this project!
I haven't played or launched a game yet, at the moment I'm making my way through the useful threats, links and discussion topics here. But hope that I can join a game very soon and will be able to experience TI online with comrades from around the world. Looking forward to get in touch with you!
Best regards from Germany,
Hendrik
So cool to see people joining in and telling their story.
Hope we can have a great game some day! The ability to save a game that TableTop Simulator gives us is just a killer feature for Twilight Imperium.
Oh and we never hear "thank you" enough; each time it makes one more hour of the labor worth it ;) Please check out the mod and let me know what you think!
PS; Glad you discovered and liked the game. And I know you will like this version of Twilight Imperium even better. 10 years of development has made it what it DESERVES to be.
