Playing wizard cards

So you start with a witch/wizard. Once you use their ability, do you discard them? Can you then play a new witch/wizard? Is it possible to have multiple witch/wizard cards in play?

Starting character is never discarded. You can play any additional characters from your hand for 2 actions. They stick around even they are single use because some cards let you choose something to discard from the playfield. If they get discarded and then end up back in your deck you can use the abilities again.
