Why not polearm mode?
This weapon has double-side blade which fits polearm role much better, while as heavy weapon it would visually benefit from only one side.

I've always thought the split sword would make more sense as a polearm when combined as well, but the skin is for split swords which for some reason use heavy blade when combined, so that's why it's like that.
