Necroing, but Valve tries to balance every map available to what is used in E sports to make the gap between the two smaller. This strategy has it's pros and cons though, and maps get removed as part of it. They said this map will come back as well as Dust 1 after they re balance them so they can work for both comp and casual, but honestly I have my doubts at this point given they said that in 2017 and as writing this it is 2022.

It is even speculated that they scrapped the idea and replaced it with the map Ancient which is a similar map in concept but overall different in layout. Dust 1 being dropped entirely in this hypothesis due to Dust 2 existing.
